There's one in Bristol too, used to carry the railway round to the harbour, but this will shortly lose its rails in favour of a busway.

No my question hadn't been answered. The Pittsburgh ones are not correct they are just 5ft gauge.

Apologies you can have that forgot about the closed freight one- the older passenger one is 5ft gauge and still operational. The one I was actually looking for was the one in Duluth Minnesota. Your floor.

The 48 Hour Rule applies to the situation where someone has answered correctly and then has 48hrs to post their own question, otherwise it becomes Open Floor for anyone's question.

I'm not aware of any clearly defined time period for when a particular question "expires" and the quiz defaults to Open Floor for a new one.

Having said that, some of the quizzes (as opposed to games) on this board ask for specific answers to particular questions. Sometimes the question is challenging & obscure (and all the better for it), so maybe there should be a specified time interval, after which the question has "expired".

This should leave enough time for participants to answer difficult questions, but avoid stalling the whole quiz, or people jumping in at random to seize the floor. (Ideally the original question-poster would return at that point and give us all the answer)

There probably isn't a one-size-fits-all time period for this, but it's surely always longer than 48 hours. For Railway General Knowledge & General Knowledge, my opinion would be 5 days with no answers or activity. For some of the more specialised quizzes with a smaller core of participants (say Cryptic Clues, or Letter By Letter) it could be more like 10 or even 15 days. Something for the original quiz-setter to think about when writing their rules, or for the Forum Quizmasters to ponder??

Sorry to advertise, but there's no reason why the number of participants should be small! Letter by Letter is a quiz based on riddles and deciphering them, with room for some creative riddle-setting! The link is in my signature if you want to come and play!
