Some clues..
1. The ticket was never issued to the public.
2. NCR21 tickets always indicated "fare paid" however I cannot give you the price indicated as it would give away the answer..!
3. Finally ..read the wording carefully on the illustration of the ticket as the answer is in the wording.!!!!!

It was issued at a former BR (Southern Region) busy commuter station which is still open today- so impossible to regulate the number of passengers wishing to travel.
The ticket issued fare paid or " cash amount taken". Note- the word cash to include credit cards, cheques as well as cash

The only person anywhere near the answer was Ash Bridge at 2142hrs yesterday. Whilst he was wrong he was getting close.

Oh blast, so it was in the ticket office and never left it and wasn't for travel, so I'll hazard a guess on counting how many passengers required use of the waiting room or toilets?

We have a WINNER
I attach a scan on the back of the ticket which indicates the station took £1,020 13s 3d that day.
The ticket was attached to the daily banking sheet for submission to head office.
This ticket was a duplicate (test) ticket made for my purposes whilst undergoing training.

It was thus a TOTAL READING CONTROL CARD

Ah, now we are getting warmer! Peter is by far the closest,and provides a good clue but not the answers Iam looking for. It's not table lamps, it's also not Crewe, but start again with the stock and be a bit more specific!

Not saying they haven't, but not to my knowledge, so incorrect.
The best clue so far is in the previous post, another clue is that we are talking about a unit, rather than a Locomotive or coaches.
