The queen I recollected, not sure which book though, the others I guessed from the stories I remember.

Certainly not aware of the other two. The ones I was looking for had different names in the books but are famous, certainly in railway circles.

Rather a lot of help so I think it will be better to declare "open floor".

If there is nothing posted by tomorrow evening I will step in.

The old Metropolitan Railway tunnel under Liverpool Street station connecting the sub-surface line with the mainline was, I believe, converted into a Mess Room after closure of the tunnel to traffic. Does this count?

(And I believe there was a bothy built in "the Cathedral" midway through the Standedge Tunnels, but I don't think it was ever grand enough to be called a Mess Room!)

Neither count. This was built as such and was in use when the tunnel had trains.

Thinking about it, isn't it near Mitcham on Croydon Tramlink?

The bit I was thinking of was on The Great Orme tramway but completely forgot about that bit on Tramlink near Mitcham. Your floor
