I think the Severn Tunnel has a point 144 feet below sea level, if tunnels are allowed as an answer.

The Channel Tunnel, which is 250 feet below sea level at its lowest point, but I don't know whether that is within the UK border or in the French bit.

Correct, Darren - and to avoid argument over the question of when territorial waters become international waters and where the tunnel is in relation to that, if we take the middle of the tunnel as the border point, the geological profile shows that the lowest point is within the UK half.

You are almost there so I will give it to you....!
It was the first use of power signalling and the following year the first automatic signal was installed.
My reference does not say when track circuits were first introduced.
