Is this something to do with the second digit of the four-digit number being the constant for any given loco class, rather than the first?

So if you went from 4100 through to 4199, the next loco in the same class would be 5100, not 4200, to keep the x1xx format.
(I'm not sure whether the 4100 example here is at all accurate, as I'm not very knowledgeable on things GWR).

Has the Ffestiniog ever used sail power? I thought they went straight from Horse-drawn/gravity to steam operation. I can't think there'd be much opportunity for traveling under wind power other than over the Cob.

I believe that the Mumbles Railway used wind power for a brief time early on, but can't think of any others.

A sail bogey was demonstrated at the Ffestiniog in 2005. To my mind this would qualify as a railway using sail power.

And finally to stray outside the mainland UK, there was a sail trolley in use in Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, by the Admiralty Wireless Tramway.
