They were there for assessment for dual braking conversion.
Dual brake conversion of the coaches? Or do you mean fitting a vacuum brake system to a Class 43?!

They probably do day to day maintenance at Kings Norton, Birmingham is a pretty central location for the work they do, will be interesting to see where any major work will be done, Eastleigh possibly as there can't be many options any more, do LSL undertake their own maintenance at Crewe?

Rail Adventure seem to either use Kings Norton predominately as a stabling point alongside Tyseley base (no doubt the former SLC Rail contacts coming in quite handy thanks to the late and great Mr Shooter) now. Anything big is still done at Eastleigh, though they haven't been south for a while. As for LSL, they've started to do more in house work at Crewe on their Power Cars, though repaints / lighting & ETS modifications continue to be carried out at Eastleigh by Arlington.

43465 and 43484 will deliver 555005 to Nexus in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The OHLE damage that prevented the first delivery attempt has been repaired.

Last nights 7Q57 was cancelled, it's now showing for tonight

** Updated Wednesday 5th April **

43465 & 43484 worked last nights (Tuesday) 2355 7Q57 Tyne SS to Pelaw Good Loops to deliver 555005 and then 0440 6Z58 to Belmont Down Yard with the barriers

** Updated Thursday 6th April **

43465 & 43484 worked 0539 6Z59 Doncaster Belmont Yard to Db Cargo Fan A & B Sidings with the barriers

In response to a question posed on RailAdventure facebook about the state of 43423 & 43467 is the following

"They are both in the process of having their engines recommissioned by Arlington and MTU at the moment, so watch this space"

There are a couple of photos on Carl Watsons Railway Photos site dated 30th March, one of 43423 with plastic sheeting over the entire light cluster and with a new high level light fitted and one of 43467 with both the light cluster and the hole for the high level light covered over, they appear to be coupled together and both are still in EMR blue

** Updated Sunday 9th April **

It's been announced that a pair of RA power cars will visit the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway for their Diesel Gala to be held 23rd to 25th June

Couldn't 197044 have made the journey without the need for the 43's?

Got to admit I know absolutely nothing about 197s, UK Rail Log shows 197044 as 'stored/awaiting transfer' so perhaps it's not yet been accepted into service?
Not accepted into service but probably needs some work to be able to start the acceptance programme hence its further drag.

Reported elsewhere that 43423/467 at Eastleigh are a step closer to a return to service, being started for the first time yesterday since EMR off-leased them.

Thanks @43096 good news but I bet they didn't have many volunteers to stand downwind .....

43468 & 43480 back out this afternoon on 1303 0Z43 Kings Norton OTPD to Wembley Receptions 1-7 with 0Z44 to Rugby scheduled for tomorrow

They can’t be doing anything much at Kings Norton as the former tamper shed is having its interior completely ripped out for refurbishment and there is no Electric, Gas or Water on site at present.

Only the leading pair can be controlled. All the recent pictures of 2 pairs at the head of trains and people commenting about 4 locos at the head and remarking about the horsepower generated are completely wrong, the second pair are not under power.

So why then are multiple pairs of class 43 together then if only one pair is used at a time?

43465 & 43484 worked 0849 6Z43 Kings Norton OTPD to Kidderminster SVR this morning with the two barrier vans (IWA) and one brake force wagon (IGB) and are due to return later without them, the wagons are having maintenance carried out on them at the SVR, the other two IGBs remain long term at Leicester LIP

43465 & 43484 then worked 1250 0Z44 back to Kings Norton OTPD

A very funny post on RailAdventure's Facebook page today (https://www.facebook.com/RailAdventureUK/)...

I suspect that might get a few going, for more than one reason!
