Saw them at Birmingham New Street today.

https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:R04402/2023-03-30/detailed - Wembley to Doncaster Belmont

https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:R04403/2023-03-31/detailed - Wembley to Tyne

https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:R04400/2023-03-31/detailed - Tyne to Pelaw

That's what they are up to at the moment. Delivering 555005.

The current 555 delivery will not be completed as planned because of severe OHLE damage on Nexus infrastructure. It will still continue to Tyne Yard tonight but onward movement from there is delayed until further notice. Nexus now won’t be able to take delivery of the 555 from RailAdventure until 4th April at the absolute earliest. Whether the 43s will leave the 555 at Tyne Yard, return to Kings Norton then collect the 555 again at a later date or if they’ll remain at Tyne Yard with the 555 is currently unknown.

Ok there’s a new thread below which all the discussions around RailAdventure using class 43 are now in.
Let’s keep this thread on the topic it was intended for now.
Thanks everyone

Perhaps I am wrong but I always assumed that the large amount of barrier/translator wagons and two loco combinations on each end was more to do with brake force, the unit in between not having compatible brakes and just having a temporary ‘through pipe’? So they (the unit) are unbraked during these delivery moves. These translator wagons only seem to translate the coupling and I can’t imagine the power cars have been given any fancy brake translation equipment.
There was a case a few years ago of such a movement running by a red signal because of a lack of brake force, so these combinations are the response.
It varies depending on the stock being hauled. You will presumably have noticed that DB use 66001 and 66002 to haul the Stadler 75x and 231s without any brake force vehicles or adaptor vehicles. CAF son the hand have Freightliner use a series of hopper wagons for brakes and adaptor couplings for s hauling 195, 196 and 197, Some of the Europhoenix class 37s and GBRf 47s can handle stock without barrier and adaptor wagons.

Yes, it seems that the wires at Pelaw are a mess from what others have said, presumably the power cars will stay at Tyne with the 555 until the line is open again
A very minor dewirement that will apparantly take Nexus days to fix, and is already into its second day of disruption. On Twitter they are saying it will take until early next week!

Severn Valley Railway? What are they doing there? Diesel gala?

SVR are holding an 'Open House Weekend' tomorrow and Sunday, could possibly be something to do with that or just a coincidence, there is a return schedule in for them today so obviously not staying, the Diesel Gala is 18th to 21st May

That’s interesting, it may just be a test run in that case.

Also, with 2 power cars stuck at Tyne, how are 777 deliveries going to work?

As things stand all 777s in the UK are now on Merseyside, Crewe has been cleared so nothing until the next sets come over from Europe, with the current unreliability I'm not sure they'll want any more over here just yet!

what's that?

According to their website it's basically an opportunity to find out what goes on behind the scenes plus it's the first weekend of full line running, there's a much better explanation than mine on the SVR website

The 555 won’t be moving from Tyne for a while. If the 43s are needed elsewhere they can leave the 555 at Tyne and return for it at a later date.

The photographs don’t show anywhere near the full extent of the damage. 800m of OHLE is damaged and needs to replaced before the line can reopen, and several cantilevers need to be fully replaced too. This has happened on the stretch of track that the handover from the 43s to Metrocars takes place.
Repairs are complicated by the need for Network Rail to agree to an OHLE isolation on their infrastructure because of the close proximity, despite all damage being on Nexus infrastructure.

That said, Nexus aren’t handling it well at all. But then we shouldn’t be surprised, Nexus manage to make even TPE look competent. This is normal for Nexus. This is the same organisation that took four weeks to put up some netting that was essential to allow a station to open.

Given how insecure some of these yards are these days, I hope they move the 555 into the former Hitachi compound which is at least fenced off then! Otherwise they might find it arriving in another colourful new livery

All that might be true but I'm sure you agree that five days to repair it is an obscene amount of time. Anywhere else on network metals, Network Rail would have that sorted by start of service next day. The OHLE is and can only used by Metro so isolation shouldn't complicate things too much unless a larger possession is needed. I can see the Tyne Dock single line adjacent to the problem but the "main line" is running fine.

The 555 has a dedicated security presence.

You'd think, but Network Rail took two months to repair a substation on the Sunderland line last year, if the same thing had happened on the ECML it would have been fixed within days. The OHLE on the Network Rail infrastructure is controlled from York ROC so getting the isolation requires communication between York ROC and Gosforth, something that's known not to be the most efficient.
I absolutely agree it could be handled better and faster, but expecting anything different from Nexus is like expecting the DFT to do it's job properly, it isn't going to happen.

Interesting, wonder what they were doing at Kidderminster?
They were there for assessment for dual braking conversion.

The alternative headline would be of HST power cars being back with LNER...

43465 and 43484 will deliver 555003 to Nexus in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The OHLE damage that prevented the first delivery attempt has been repaired.

Interesting, wonder what they were doing at Kidderminster?

Also, why are they maintained at a MPV depot?

There's a couple of pictures on WNXX of the pair but nothing as to why they were out, best guess could've been driving training or route learning

They probably do day to day maintenance at Kings Norton, Birmingham is a pretty central location for the work they do, will be interesting to see where any major work will be done, Eastleigh possibly as there can't be many options any more, do LSL undertake their own maintenance at Crewe?

Thanks @DanNCL a lot quicker than expected then, or were they deliberately over the top with the damage?
