If, by this, you are saying that these teachers come into the British education system uncluttered by ideas from mosque or church teaching and teach the children in their care with a mind free from pre-conceived ideas and with their own personal considered judgement, then this is a good thing.

I did ask you what your first-hand knowledge was whether any of your own teachers teach with such a freedom of mind.

What exactly are you asking?

Most of the people I went to school with simply rejected outright anything teachers said that went against what they were taught by their religion, e.g. Charles Darwin was called every name under the Sun in my year 9 RE class, and nothing that the teacher said could change their mind, regardless of what the teacher themselves thought.

In my experience a lot of the younger teachers were uncluttered by intelligence let alone ideas.

One really feminist woman teacher I had and her husband went on a Roman Catholic retreat for a week. She came back complaining that they had tried to involve her more in their religion and beliefs. :roll:

It was a good few years ago now but back then the teachers were divided into two groups the older ones tended to know their subjects, and had a vocation, the younger ones seemed less intelligent and were just doing a job with as little effort as they could.

As for religion the sooner the world grows up and stops squabbling over who has the best invisible friend the better off we will be.

I was about 20 pages from finishing his memoir (Hitch-22) when I saw his death announced on the news, very odd feeling - as I really enjoyed the book as many of the events that he described from his political position were events that I deeply cared about and agreed with his views, for what it's worth, I did find his 'conversion' to 'all things American' unconvincing and much of the last few chapters are more like a rant...my opinion, tho'......
