Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Littleport and Downham Market.
Because of this, buses are replacing trains between Ely and Downham Market. Journey times may be extended by up to 30 minutes. There is no estimate for when trains will be able to resume.
A road vehicle has struck as passenger train on a level crossing.
Thankfully this looks like a trivial accident in terms of damage and injuries - if it was road vehicle on road vehicle it would be all done and dusted within an hour - but as it involves a train the line is shut for half a day - why - the rail sector is bogged down in bureaucracy for seemingly little reason which all adds to cost of running the network to no benefit to its users.
How do you drive into the side of a train? The driver should be jailed for being a complete idiot and potentially harming people on the train.
I don't think the normal level crossing warning lights there are working properly.

This is due to an earlier problem at a level crossing.
These are the drivers that usually get by without having accidents themselves, but leave a trail of carnage behind them.
I hope this person gives up his license and doesn't get any sympathy on account of his age. If it's true the back of the train partially derailed, there was a really high chance that it could have been far worse - with fatalities on the train caused by someone who was obviously unfit to drive.
