Today I picked up an advance purchase single for a journey in about a month's time.
I purchased the ticket from Avanti's website and collected the ticket from one of Avanti's TVMs at Birmingham New Street. I've booked onto the 08:47 Avanti service from Birmingham New Street to London Euston, however, the only printed ticket does not say which train I'm booked onto, despite clearly saying 'Advance Single', 'Avanti West Coast and Connections' and 'Mandatory reservations detailed on coupons'. When booking the ticket the website did say that seat reservations were not available, but should a ticket inspection happen, how do I prove that I was booked onto said train?
The booking confirmation email I received only showed the departure time of the WMR train from Selly Oak and the arrival time of the Stansted Express train into Stansted Airport.
I enquired at the ticket office at Birmingham New Street soon after I collected the ticket, however, they were unable to print an official coupon and recommended that I contact the original ticket retailer (The Avanti West Coast website) to get some help, which I have since done, although the enquiry system on their website is unable to attach any pictures of the printed ticket. They were able to print an unofficial itinerary, but only by searching for an itinerary that matched the departure and arrival times shown on the booking confirmation email.
The automated email I received acknowledging the enquiry I submitted said that the customer services department were quite busy at the moment, but would try to reply within 28 days.
I am a bit worried that I may have no way that proving that I am booked onto said Avanti service without proof in the form of a printed coupon, despite the one printed ticket saying that I am booked onto an Avanti service.
When I have booked through Avanti's website and collected the tickets from a TVM it always seemed to have printed quite a few coupons, so I just find this a bit strange, if not sloppy.
I've attached a picture of the ticket and receipt printed, as well as the 'uofficial' itinerary for reference.
