Today I picked up an advance purchase single for a journey in about a month's time.

I purchased the ticket from Avanti's website and collected the ticket from one of Avanti's TVMs at Birmingham New Street. I've booked onto the 08:47 Avanti service from Birmingham New Street to London Euston, however, the only printed ticket does not say which train I'm booked onto, despite clearly saying 'Advance Single', 'Avanti West Coast and Connections' and 'Mandatory reservations detailed on coupons'. When booking the ticket the website did say that seat reservations were not available, but should a ticket inspection happen, how do I prove that I was booked onto said train?

The booking confirmation email I received only showed the departure time of the WMR train from Selly Oak and the arrival time of the Stansted Express train into Stansted Airport.

I enquired at the ticket office at Birmingham New Street soon after I collected the ticket, however, they were unable to print an official coupon and recommended that I contact the original ticket retailer (The Avanti West Coast website) to get some help, which I have since done, although the enquiry system on their website is unable to attach any pictures of the printed ticket. They were able to print an unofficial itinerary, but only by searching for an itinerary that matched the departure and arrival times shown on the booking confirmation email.

The automated email I received acknowledging the enquiry I submitted said that the customer services department were quite busy at the moment, but would try to reply within 28 days.

I am a bit worried that I may have no way that proving that I am booked onto said Avanti service without proof in the form of a printed coupon, despite the one printed ticket saying that I am booked onto an Avanti service.

When I have booked through Avanti's website and collected the tickets from a TVM it always seemed to have printed quite a few coupons, so I just find this a bit strange, if not sloppy.

I've attached a picture of the ticket and receipt printed, as well as the 'uofficial' itinerary for reference.

How odd. It seems to think that you should have two more coupons worth of reservations, but it hasn't got numbers for them.

You also appear to be suffering from Avanti's teeny-tiny font bug. Does the very long number you've redacted on the actual ticket end in -05-00?

I would save the collection receipt for sure - the fact that it says “1 coupons” and lists (presumably) the correct number for your one ticket, is pretty good evidence that you only got the one ticket out of the machine. Can’t imagine any reasonable ticket inspector faulting you for that, though of course it’s probably wise to travel on the correct service anyway.

When I bought a ticket which was tied to a particular train recently, not only was there no reference to the train on it, nor a separate coupon with the train details, but there wasn't even a reference on the ticket to the alleged existence of another coupon (as there is in the instance here). Which in some ways is better, since if your ticket says "as per reservation coupon", but you don't have one, that might cause more problem with a ticket checker than if your ticket doesn't imply you're missing anything. (In my case, I just - later - got a separate reservation for the train concerned so as to cut the chance of any hassles; but there were none and no-one asked about any reservation.)

Having now had a chance to check the details at work, Avanti's website has achieved new levels of breakage, such that our Ticket Issuing System was unable to display it!

I would suggest the OP contacts their Web Support team and asks for a reissue.

Also the itinerary printed has you arrive into Euston and depart Euston at the same time. Does the train actually run.

Was the direct cross country not quicker.

The direct service takes 3h20 from New Street so thats 40 minutes longer than scheduled (and I'd imagine op might make an earlier Stansted express if theyve gone every 15 mins)

Isn't that normal for a cross-London interchange such as this?
Yes, Euston - Tottenham Hale on the Victoria Line is nowhere near 44 minutes, so that time already includes the generous interchange time allowed at both ends.

That 44 minutes is the representative train-to-train interchange time that can reasonably be achieved by most passengers. It's the summation of the minimum change time at Euston (15 minutes), the Euston-Tottenham Hale fixed link transit (20 minutes) and the minimum interchange time at Tottenham Hale (5 minutes).

To provide an update, I've received an email in response to my query which included a screenshot from their booking system of my itinerary retrieved from the booking reference number. I'll just print this off and show in to anyone doing a ticket inspection.

Here's another Advance ticket (photo attached) for "Specified trains" but without specifying any :D

I bought 3 different tickets in one transaction at a booking office, specifying a train. Maybe a reproducible software glitch?

No problem with acceptance on LNR today.

I'd like these every time!

In my phone wallet I currently have a Grand Central advance e-ticket which only shows the route and date, doesn’t specify which train nor coach/seat details.

I had the exact same thing with ScotRail from Wick to Inverness, on an advance ticket. Station sorted it out,.

Have you clicked on the info icon, or the three dots in the top right. That’s where reservations are stored, unless you’ve got just one booked train then the time will appear on the front like the below examples:
