170103 has apparently emerged from the refurb in a very interesting colour scheme, sporting a pride livery alongside the refurb colours.

I saw it the last time I was at work a few weeks ago. Looks good.

I saw it today on the down goods line near Saltley, Birmingham, at around 13.00.
I think it was en-route Crewe to Tyseley, should be out and about working in the next few days.

I'm all for tasteful Pride liveries but that is absolutely monstrous. They found a way to make a bad livery look even worse.

That is an assault on the senses, it’s horrible, an absolute abomination. Even Northern are better at liveries for their 170s, and they’re not even sophisticated enough to be able to write their own name without using Childish block capitals fonts.

Get all the privatisation done and repaint the lot into regional railways express livery from 1990..

I didn’t want to be the first to say it as this forum has a habit of not accepting legitimate opinions on the subject, but I’ll say it now.

Yes, I fully agree, and what is the point of it, what does it signify? that XC supports Pride or Pride events, if so, how exactly do they do that?
I'm sure this application doesn't refer to one specific Pride, just all Prides in general, always. Can't help feeling it's virtue signalling gone mad!

At a time when the political winds seem to be shifting and public space is suddenly becoming less, rather than more, accessible and inviting for LGBT+ people I actually think there is value in transport companies making clear that they continue to support and welcome this community. Indeed if nothing else, being visibly accessible to as many people as possible is good for the railway's bottom line!

Agreed. The way it has been done is awful. There are so many better examples out there

Really wish they hadn't bothered, it looks awful.

I like the new 170 livery, but 103 is a total mess.

Metrolink 3002 is in a spectacular pride livery. I’m always very happy to drive it.

170103 pride livery.
They managed to turn a good livery awful. And there are much better ways to apply a pride livery to a train (even 170618 is a decent livery)

I generally prefer the fairly understated ones that complement the livery e.g. the GWR "swoosh" one or the LNER one which I think uses the window band. Though oddly I also like that Avanti "together we roll" one which has a bit of a Beatles album art type feel to it.

Mind you I dislike that new XC livery anyway, it is a right mess.

I agree. Anything more is usually too busy (390119 an exception).

I generally like pride liveries. The GA one where the hare is holding a pride flag is a fun one, though I think GWR and Avanti have nice ones too.

The XC170 is bad though, but I don't think the issue is just the pride part of the livery, the base livery is terrible to start with!

The Pendolino is a great example of something bold done very well. It's super to see it. The XC 170 looks like a 2 years old colouring-in book, a big fail.

390119 certainly brightens up a dull mood.

I don't mind that one to be honest - it is fairly well designed even if brash. The XC one just looks a mess, though it doesn't help that the base livery in my view also looks a mess - having both the brake-dust-beige* X and the silver main body doesn't work, you need one base colour, not two similar ones. It just looks as awful as if I painted a room with grey on one wall and magnolia on another - you need contrasts to actually contrast to work - and throwing a bucket of Pride flags at it in an uncoordinated way doesn't really help its cause any.

* Beige on trains doesn't work because it looks like uncleaned white - typical railway detritus makes white go that colour.

I like the sentiment, and it’s positive to see in the current circumstances. It’s just a shame about the execution.

I've since seen a couple of clearer photos of 170103 on Facebook and my opinion is starting to change, I actually think I like it.

170103 is looking amazing. Great work by the people at Crewe Arriva. Another great livery to see instead of all the standardised & boring corporate TOC ones

Hi,

I saw 345055 today (photo attached of it calling at Slough at 13.09) and the Pride livery has been removed. Does anyone know when this was done?

Thanks :)

It was removed at Old Oak Common depot on 27th February. I was on shift that night, the train was brought in for contractors to remove the vinyls
