The KWVR class 101 is currently being repainted into a livery with a full yellow end. I’d personally like to see it in Regional Railways to go with the 144, but I’d imagine it’ll just end up blue.

According to the Railcar site the RR livery was first applied in 1991; the 144 has the 1986 WY livery, so you could argue for blue and grey or white with blue stripe as well - if period matters. I shall be interested to see what transpires....

I’d also like to see Regional Railways. I think it looks good, works with the Red 144 and it’s also the only livery I ever saw them carry in frontline service at Manchester Piccadilly under First North Western.

Blue & Grey with added WYPTE logos (the old 'white rose' one) and Metro-Train branding would get my vote.
That would match the livery on the 144 better.
RR did appear whilst the 144’s were in 011’s current livery but the 144 would need the later Metro Train logos.
144017 was the first to appear in the later RR style metro train livery after its near 2 year rebuild after its accident at Skipton (red, thinner cream stripe, no yellow stripe but uniquely to 017 white regional railways logos beneath the cream stripe, all others had the RR lettering in red on the cream band).

The only second generation units that carried the old logo were the 141s as-built when they wore the "buttermilk & verona green" livery (I believe that was the official description of the colours) which was based on the pre-deregulation bus livery. Quite a few first gen units had the branding, but always on a blue & grey base.
I realise we're getting a bit off-topic, but was the unique SYPTE 114 the only first generation unit to carry an English PTE livery?
Yes it was. A distinctive 2 tone brown livery. Not everyone’s cup of tea but certainly different.

The ex-Strathclyde 303s which got the orange & brown GMPTE livery spring immediately to mind. Or did you mean the only first-gen DMU to recieve an English PTE livery?
I read it as DMU’s but several 1st gen EMU’s got PTE liveries including 312204 in blue/yellow WMPTE livery.
Ooh just thought. A class 121 was in blue/red WMPTE midline livery.

I did mean DMUs, as that's slightly less off-topic... should have specified of course.
Though I have just remembered that a bubble car was given an experimental "Midline" livery before that brand was dropped by West Midlands PTE in favour of Centro- so the 114 wasn't the only one!

Aye, I reckon that's the most modern a 1st Gen DMU ever looked.
51189 was part of 101660. 51803 was part of 101676.

The ATW bubble on the Cardiff Bay line tops it in my opinion... it even broke down an awful lot, just like modern units!
Was going to suggest the next stage - ie swap the all-over blue for blue/grey but keep the white with blue stripe! Though that photo clearly shows why the white with blue wasn’t such a good idea….

I’ve changed the name of the the thread so that it can include any heritage DMUs
Peak Rail have taken delivery of a Class 108 from Telford.
Will be interesting to see it pull into Matlock next to a Turbostar.

GCRN when they eventually reopen & their units are restored should have an interesting little fleet. They've got:
A 144 - 144003, pacers as we know are becoming more popular. The flange noise off that round the curve to 50 steps junction could be rather loud!
A 116 - don't know anything about this but a drivers eye view of the line should be ace.

Sorry for quoting an old post, but the reason I specified English PTEs was because I knew Strathclyde had some 107s (and others) in their orange and black livery... and of course the 101 in a variant of the old "Blue Train" colours which later found itself working in Manchester.

surely if you are going to repaint a 101 you should paint each carriage in a different livery for that real end of service experiance!

Doesn't count as preserved if its not repainted BR green...
