I see north Korea are planning on launching a rocket between the 10th and 22nd of December. No doubt the Yanks will start moaning again as only they are allowed weapons it seems. A bit of a long shot but they do like to annoy each other but could this be what starts the beginning of the end? Did the Mayans have a particular theory? Personally i think we will all be here for Christmas but you never know

Indeed, it shows the benefit of not giving text just a cursory glance when reading and then making assumptions as to the meaning of these words. The wording "predicted Mayan apocalypse" does not mean that it was a prediction emanating from the Mayan people, but could well have been made by someone who had made a study of those Mayan people and had made the prediction based upon the particular interpretation that may have been given to the end of one of the epochs based upon the calendar that was observed by these people.

It is interesting, nonetheless, to study the quite varied sources from where these "predictions" are made and of the historical texts that have been made reference to by those who actually made these predictions.

Personally, I think we'll see 2013 just fine, as I've seen somewhere before, there has been a changeover of the Mayan calender before apparently, and nothing happened then. I just think it's a big hype over nothing.

Why are people obsessed with "the end of the world". And more to the point why do people believe others who claim they can "predict" it, and that it's coming "soon"? Funny how such predictions have come and gone over the centuries and yet we are still here.

The only time I'd listen is if astronomers said there was a massive asteroid headed our way and there was nothing we could do about it. Then that would be a time to worry.

Paint stopped working, so I had to do Ctrl+Alt+Del which seemed to crash the whole computer, so I had to force a shut down. So although it wasn't really the Ctrl+Alt+Del that caused the problem, it did have an impact on it. I've never known a forced shut down to cause any problems though.

I hope this isn't my desktop's equivalent of "Last month of life?" It's been with me for over 4,000 days now...
