Pop-up when viewing Railforums UK

Just last night, I kept receiving a "pop-up" massage at the foot of the page stating:-

Do you want to open or save jload.js from pixel.adsafeprotected.com?

Has anyone experienced this? I have full multi-layer anti-virus protection installed. Needless to say I cancel the request each time it appears.

It only appears when I visit the RailforumsUK site at present.

I'm getting exactly the same thing. It keeps coming back no matter how many times I cancel it.

JavaScript is not in any way related to Java (other than in having confusingly similar names) so updating Java will not help.

It is a defect in code provided by one of the site's advertisers (Specifically the server pixel.adsafeprotected.com is returning the wrong MIME type for the file jload.js). I recommend that anyone having issues contacts the forum admins to alert them to the issue so that they can work with their advertisers to correct the defect (as I have done). If it is any consolation this is not the only site being affected by the defect.

As with all unexpected requests of this nature you should not allow such files to be downloaded onto your computer. If you have and are in any way concerned I recommend running a full virus scan and also malwarebytes as soon as you can.

To confirm - it is an advert which is causing the issue. Google - our ad provider - is aware of the issue and will hopefully get this sorted ASAP. As it is an issue with a whole subset of ads, we cannot just remove a specific ad to get rid of the issue, unfortunately.

There is no risk of a virus infection or similar - it is just a malfunctioning advert script, nothing malicious, and will hopefully be sorted very shortly (as suggested, other major sites such as eBay are having the same problem). As Michael suggests though, it can't hurt to run a virus scan if you're worried.

Would this explain why every time I try to use the Backspace button to act as the BACK button (the left arrow that sends you back on page) I always have to press it twice for whatever reason on this site now, or three times if not logged in?

This, I did, immediately as the problem surfaced, using Norton 360.

I have no idea, but I often have trouble hitting back using the keyboard or the mouse on this site, it requires about 5 clicks on either to get anything to happen, even then it stays reticent sometimes.

I suggest that you do what some of us did on here....Contact the forum administrators of that site you refer to in your posting and bring the matter to their attention.

If you haven't done so already, then I recommend installing Adblock Plus for Chrome, it's amazing! It hides all ad's, even during video's such as YouTube/ITV Player.

On a few days in the last couple of weeks or so, the forum page just totally vanishes and becomes an advert for a juicy.ru ; sounds a bit unsavoury - I always backspace out before it fully appears; this backspacing always seems to take me straight back to the forum index page?

This is not a pop up - it's the entire window changing from the forum to the advert.

Just tried it in an XP virtual machine with IE8 and got a survey with the promise of a chance to win an ipad - a very good reason not to take part IMO.

Looking at all the cookies (mostly Google as one would expect) it's a bit tricky to work out which one it relates to, though this the alleged domain;localgiftspanel.com.

I would suggest turning off javascript but if you do that you probably won't be able to log in.

I don't use an ad blocking program, as they don't annoy me enough for that, they just don't do anything either (I've never bought anything due to an advert on a forum)
