Plug/Power Socket Christmas Special

Hi friends,

After the huge hit a few weeks ago of my "lame plug socket question" (see http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=75887&highlight=plug+socket), I thought I'd bring it back for a Christmas Special.

Planning to catch a London Midland train from Crewe to London (around Noon on the 27th and maybe returning 3pm on the 29th). I'm going on the cheap, so I am going to take the longer journey with LM to save £45! Could you tell me what to expect in terms of on board facilities?

Are there tables with power sockets? Toilets?! Or are they these commuter services with just open seating?

Should be tables as long as your not on a train that stops at Northampton it does have toilets but they are often out of order no plug sockets except in first no refreshments can be bought on board if stopping at Northampton likely to have 3+2 seating

Thursday 27 December to Tuesday 1 January

The line between London Euston, Milton Keynes and Rugby has re-opened, and the following alterations will apply:

Both London Midland and Virgin Trains will run an amended train service to and from London Euston.
Trains between London Euston and Holyhead will run between Crewe and Holyhead only. Other trains should be used between London Euston and Crewe.
On Tuesday 1 January, London Midland services between London Euston and Crewe will run between London Euston and Rugby only. Buses will replace trains between Rugby and Crewe.

As for on board facilities - Tables & toilets if you get a 350/1 toilets and a numb bum if you get a 350/2

The only plugs are in first class

Thanks - but presumably this is all upto date in the NRenquiries and LM's own online ticket system? Does it mean it'll be really busy?

Oh! I looked at the scheduled trains and thought "2h 38m, that seems reasonable, 3hr 14 on the way back's not bad", £26 or whatever it is, direct from Crewe, seems fair enough... Have I made a big mistake!?

First class is identical on both types, except for the colour scheme.

The only problem with it is, that on the services I use, the table seats are invariably occupied by LM staff eating their sandwiches.

The seats may as well be known by the name "toilets" on certain trains of some TOCs (313s spring to mind).

I have actually done Crewe - Euston on a 350/1, but before they ran via Stoke ... and Northampton. All stations Crewe to Rugby then flat out non-stop to Euston.

Actually quite a good journey, if a little slow.

More spacious than a Pendolino and clearer views!

I wouldn't plug anything into those sockets apart from a Hoover as I will prob damage the thing you are charging.

True, but someone did say that there was power in first, and not in standard?

I'll defer this to someone with better electrical knowledge, but I have done this many times (of necessity, due to having a smart phone) and never had a problem.

IEC60309. Single phase 32A/230V, so I can plug my UPSes in on the train. Just in case, y'know. (I'm sure the OP meant BS1363)
