Sadly there will be some consumers with that sort of money spare to purchase the top of the range model for the sake of showing off their wealth (unless there is another reason why you can buy a case which has a little cut-out in the middle designed to show-off the little logo)

I was looking at the price of the iPhone on the four major networks today (EE, Three, Vodafone and O2) and the highest price is just crazy. It was for an iPhone 7 Plus and it was the 256 GB model (so the flagship basically). The most expensive contract I could find was on O2. You got 50 GB of data, unlimited calls and texts, unlimited music streaming and EU data roaming and you can upgrade your phone after a year. All this would set you back a staggering £95 a month plus £59.99 up front. hock:

In fact, all the networks had contracts at £70 or above on some of the higher end plans with the most data. The scary thing is even the lowest data quantities (500 MB or 1 GB) would set you back well over £30 a month. Unless you pretty much never use data when out and about, that is very easy to burn through on a powerful smart phone.

I have always found it better to ring up and speak to the specialised iPhone upgrade department rather than go via the website, normal upgrades or via an EE shop. I always seem to get a better deal via them especially since I have four phones on my contract (for family members). Might seem a lot over two years but for me, the mobile hotspot function and extra data is worth its weight in gold from a business perspective

How much is a SIM only deal with 25 GB of data a month? You can get 32GB of data for £28 a month which is £896 over two years including a free Wifi router, so you would hope it would be less than that.

On the EE site that is priced at £65.99 per month, plus £149.99 upfront cost. Even including the upfront cost that is only £1,733.75. A small price to pay to be at the cutting edge of technology.

Really? 1080p screen, 3GB RAM, unknown battery capacity and a dual camera that isn't quite as clever as I hoped.

It has a stellar CPU/GPU for sure but it really isn't cutting edge technology compared to many other devices out there today with higher definition displays (even HDR), more RAM, a card slot so you buy a 256GB card once and re-use it in your next phone etc.

By the way, Vodafone today launched new SIM only plans; 20GB for £20 with free Spotify, Now TV or Sky Sports and 2GB EU data roaming included, and 25GB and 4GB roaming for £25.

I forgot to add a smiley in my earlier post. I'm so tight that I could never bring myself to buy a smartphone costing more than £200. I automatically work out in my head how many hours I have to work to earn that so that stops me from impulse purchases. But it is good that others get pleasure in being early adopters as they drive the economy. We need people like them.

I did, however, buy a Moto G4 a week ago and I couldn't be happier with it. My main criteria was to get a dual SIM phone and unlike most other dual SIM phones, it allows you to use 3G on the second SIM card. The idea is to use one SIM card for cheap 4G data and the other one for cheap calls/texts. My calls/texts SIM is on Three so phones only allowing 2G on the second SIM were out.

You may have read elsewhere me asking about Three's Data Reward SIMs and how many you can get. I only managed to get 2 direct from Three. However, you can buy them on eBay for 99p so I got 10 of them. I also have 2 Freedom Pop SIMs as well. So I now get 2.8 GB of free data a month.

Oneplus 3 = £329

Two year cost = £545.

I know where my money would be going.....

Recently switched to this Vodafone deal, it's brilliant in Europe as they don't throttle the speed like the Three "feel at home" offer. Was going to switch back to Three from EE but glad I switched to them instead. I got cashback and a Spotify subscription out of it so I'm a very happy bunny.

Madness. That's almost three times the cost of my Macbook Air. I'm well engaged with the Apple fan club with a Macbook and iPad but I quite simply refuse to pay those sort of prices for a phone. Android is a really good alternative and you've got Chinese manufacturers offering top quality hardware for a fraction of the price.

I can say I'm loving my Honor 8 right now, also with dual cameras.

My favourite is definitely Yotaphone. I currently have a Yotaphone 2 (it runs Android) which is brilliant. It has some great features. Great battery life. Two screens. Good cameras. My least favourite is definitely Apple.
