The only real point would be for onward guaranteed connections, which could be solved if only they would give trains "flight numbers" and do codeshare bookings as DB and a few others do. By the time the airport faff was done at each end and you travelled from an airport that is only just in London you'd have got the train (which also serves the airport, so the "what if I live nearer the airport than New St" argument fails) and had time for a couple of pints on arrival.
