390 057 should come through the tunnel for Thursday morning (05/04/2012). If its late then it was going to be Tuesday BUT there is a strike on in France so who knows when it will make it .

Apologies for getting it wrong the last time. It was the first four pairs of coaches that came mid March .

It has been reported by the staff at Stafford Railway Station on Facebook this afternoon (post 12 midday!) that the first units to enter service will be 390107 and 390156 (ex 390007 and 390056) tomorrow. Sounds like the boards at some stations may display the lengths for passengers.

They do, most stations have been showing "9 Car Pendolino" for a week or more.

Oh God I've just realised something. When the project is done, we will have 390101 - 136 and 390 037 - 057 won't we. (Made up the numbers).

I think it'll be the second option. Units are being selected for lengthening as they come up for exam. You'll have to hope the new franchisee extends the remaining sets!

First day of 11 car sets in traffic today!

Set 156 in traffic today I believe its on either 1R26 08:30 BHM - EUS or 1R27 07:48 LIV-EUS then will be working back out of EUS at 10:23 to WVH back to EUS as 1B48 1245 departure then 1G28 15:03 to BHM back as 1B70 1650 to EUS and then 1H83 1857 to MAN.

There might be a second 11 car set out but on TRUST its diagrams are shown as a 9 car set.

I thought that 11 car pendolinos couldn't fit on any Liverpool platforms. Or does LIV mean somewhere else. New to this. Sorry

Nobody can actually provide any evidence that it won't fit. I suspect it is a rumour that has become 'fact'.

Hi folks after lurking for a bit i've decided to come out, my son 8 yr is autistic and adores pendolinos and i try my best to explain the terminology of trains etc anyway thanks to the posters above you guys have made his day when i explained the pendo he saw with his mum at new street earlier was the first 11 car in passenger service specially after having his picture taken next it.his seen the 054 running up and down through lea hall every now and then.anyway i didn't clock the "1" instead of the "0" in the prefix at first on the photo . the wife said the didn't understand why there was so much attention when it pulled in now it makes sense after reading the above.
his gone to bed a happy lad. thank folks.

An 11 car fits in platform 7. Not sure about 8 or 9.

As far as I can see, platforms 5-8 are all roughly the same length; with 9 slightly shorter.

Earlier today I was at Stockport when an 11-car Pendolino arrived and the train's arrival was announced as the '15:04 Virgin 11-coach Pendolino service to London Euston calling at Macclesfield and London Euston'

Two questions about this:

One: Is the fact it is an 11-car Pendo announced everywhere or just Stockport?

Two: Services routed via Macc. usually also call at Stoke-on-Trent, was this stop omitted because of platform length issues or would it not have called there anyway? I would have thought it was Macclesfield with length issues if anywhere... Not to mention the fact that it was very nearly overhanging at Stockport...

Appears to be the service pattern. Neither the 16.04 or the 17.04 stop at Stoke and there's not that many 11 car sets out yet. Only 155 and 156 to my knowledge.

IIRC Macclesfield's platforms may be longer than Stoke's...

Anyway, MAN-EUS trains booked via Crewe are running via Macclesfield today, so it would have been on diversion and calling at MAC I think to serve the area that Wilmslow would.

At Birmingham International they had on boards the length and said how many cars on announcement, but they were laughing when did 11 car not sure why.

I saw an 11 car Pendolino at some sidings near Liverpool the other weekend, it looked ever so shiny!
