Those rammed in the aisles and vestibules and those left behind on the platform have paid enough in fares to fund one additional unit and deserve better than they got so late at night. I hope those who missed the last train to Knaresborough had taxis provided and cost Northern as that is the only way they will learn by hitting them in the balance sheet. Who is paying for the yellow 158?
So how many passengers are left behind on the platform when there isn't a special event on?
Northern's planning department do underestimate demand for special events and don't seem to be able to look back at passenger figures for the last time such an event was held.
The worst example I heard about is when there was the UEFA cup final in Manchester. Northern did little to add extra seats on late trains out of Manchester and it resulted in so many people trying to cram on 142s that crews refused to take them out as they couldn't get to and open and close the cab doors. It then resulted in last trains being cancelled and Northern failing to fulfill their legal requirement of getting passengers home or putting them in hotels for the night.
With Metro Train funding extra peak time capacity on the Harrogate line I imagine Northern want them to do the same with later services before they add extra capacity.

A specific problem, would you like a list.
Well it's only a problem like the train would get damaged, stuck, not be able to stop at a certain platform or have to run at a slower speed than Sprinters for an extended length of time that would prevent the train being cleared to run a service.
Squealing on sharp bends or running on jointed track doesn't seem to keep Pacers banned from lines in the North, but does in the South West!
