Looking at Paul Bigland's photographs, the bits of the bridge over Trinity Way are prominent in this one, so any steel elsewhere on the site is probably something else.

Yes, that photo is a different site further north. I assume the fact they are welding up those sections indicates that they are now as near as they can be to the final position, awaiting one of those multi-wheel carriers to put them in place when the time comes. The ones I saw are near the future junction at the southern end of the Curve (but on the wrong side of the railway) so are probably the sections intended to become the new bridge spans south of the Irwell.

Although the Chord will diverge northward from the line that runs from Deansgate station to Ordsall Lane junction, the viaduct carrying that line is to be widened partly on the south side, straightening the line a bit.

Is that side going to get the ribbed rusty steel treatment (which is what I saw), or just match the existing brick?

Not sure where to put this, I'm guessing here as it is probably linked to the work.

The Chat Moss has been seeing some work over the past few months installing TPWS and AWS equipment between Eccles and Ordsall Lane Jn which looks likely to be for bi-directional signalling.

Now signals have been installed at various positions (and bagged over). Together with the large signal gantries installed at Ordsall Lane Jn on the Down/Up Boltons, Down/Up Chat Moss, it will make the whole junction bidirectional on all routes.

Anyone have more info on when this work will be commissioned?

And will we be losing Eccles (and Astley) box(es)?
Presumably all moving to the ROC when the Ordsall Chord opens.
Work needs to start at Huyton too, on the 4th track.
The required land to take (library, bus station etc) still looks very much occupied.

There are some pictures on SSC in the Middlewood Locks thread and the Northern Hub thread showing that Gantries have been replaced over the Viaduct adjoining Trinity Way in connection with the widening of the Viaduct to take the tracks through platforms 3 and 4 at Salford Central

Astley stays (until such time as the crossings are closed), as does Eccles.

Everything else goes to the ROC, if it wasn't already.

Work on connecting the fourth track through Huyton and Roby should start this year, but it isn't vital until the 2019 timetable anyway.

Certainly going to be useful as when a unit goes pop around Eccles you can have trains peg to peg stretching out as far as Earlestown! It really does fill up quickly.

I know! I've followed signal to signal from Parkside Jn to Ordsall Lane Jn after a 319 felt poorly! At night, never been able to see as many trains in front of me as I did on the straight to Astley. Must've been 5! Styal Line you can usually see 3 max!

Just a few recent updates:

Also they appear to be starting on the track bed works in Salford Central (Between P3 & 4):

Finally as I walked past the former Open NCP Car Park between Salford Central and One New Bailey, which has been used by contractors since shutting to the public, it has now been handed over to Network Rail according to a sign on the entrance gates (which it never occurred to me to take a picture).

There are also some part-built structures lying on the west side of the Castlefield viaduct, near the Potato Wharf building.
They are very difficult to see from a train, but maybe something to do with the viaduct widening in that area?

Just catching up on my notices. In the Weekly Operating Notices now are more information.

December 28th 2016 - Oxford Road - Castlefield Jn to the existing fringe between Piccadilly SCC and Glazebrook will transfer into the Manchester ROC. Bi-directional signals at Deansgate held at danger at this stage.

January 3rd 2017 - Ordsall Lane Jn remodelled, Ordsall lane Jn - Eccles resignalked and transferred into Manchester ROC. Bi-directional signalling introduced between Salford Crescent and Oxford Road, and Eccles and Ordsall Lane on the Down Chat Moss only.
