Bit of a strange attitude considering that probably the highest linespeed 3rd rail fitted track in the world. Was under the control of the next box up the line from yours.

It is precisely for the reason that I remember stumbling around Watford Jct and on the DCs with the collection of 3rd and 4th rails that I dislike the stuff so much !

Spent more time trying to avoid the wrong rails than actually looking out for trains !

I wonder if you ever knew the West Indian patrolman on the NLL whose hands had been bleached white after a tool he was using came into contact with the third rail one day ?

I dont like it at all, I much prefer the OHL its much more civilised and if you leave it alone it wont come out to grab hold of you !

No I never met him.

But I was once working up there with a relay supervisor who lived in Bedford John............. The supervisor had gone off up the track to the next access to get the welders. After a while the SPT on a signal near where I was standing rang, so I answered. The signalman told me that the DC breakers had come out on the next section up the line. With my mind full of images of fried welder and exploding gas bottles, I headed off up the line. After a while I found the supervisor and welders comming the other way. The supervisor had 'extended the isolation' by dropping some bond wire over the con rail.
