Hi all,

I have just completed v1 of my London and greater london coverage map for people to highlight.
I have also typed up a list of stations included so you can mark of where you've been to and/or passed.

It was done solely in paint and took ages to do so I hope you like it! :P

V1 includes:
- NR lines central london and suburbs.
- All tube lines and in their 'home' colours.
- All of the Croydon Tramlink.
- Most freight only lines in and around london.
- Fast/slow lines included on the GWML and WCML.

In version 2 im hoping to include:
- Most fast/slow lines elsewhere
- Any fixes that are required

It is made to be easier to highlight unlike the NR coverage map so you can highlight it in sections using the fill tool in whatever colour you like!

Any comments or suggestions appreciated

taa,
James.

P.S. Look forward to seeing your maps!

If there is room adding a stopped category to the station list could be a good idea. Stopping at a station is a bit different to seeing a blur from the window of an express, but not as far as getting out and looking around.

Nice one James! Saved a copy! It'll take a while to fill in, must have taken forever to make!

Good job so far, I'll look forward to seeing the rest!

EDIT: Started colouring it in, it's taking longer than I thought! On further detailed looks at it, it's really good!

Hi, thanks for this map -- I myself was attempting to make one but it was too hard so this will be a good utility!

Some feedback issues that I've noticed seeing as you said you'd fix any errors (but the map is very good):

Harlesden seems to be spelt wrong
I can't see where to fill in (in the Willesden area) if you're getting a Southern train from Watford to Olympia and beyond

Just a little curve missing.

Other than that it's pretty good!

Some more nitpicky things if you want to make 'improvements' -- if such a thing can be done with this fantastic map.

Lambeth North and Shepherd's Bush are spelt wrong

Also, I am assuming TMD stands somewhere that train maintenaince takes place but correct me if I'm wrong on that -- If so, I don't think London Road is a TMD, but Ruislip and Ealing Common (which you haven't included) are TMDs, as are Northfields, Upminster, Neasden and Hammersmith.

Obviously if ive got the definition of TMD wrong, the rest following it is probably also wrong.

Thanks again for this brilliant map!

Traction Maintenance Depot I believe is what it stands for (although we don't call them that on LU). And AFAIK London Road does indeed have maintenance facilities, albeit on a substantially smaller scale than some of the missing depots!

Have to say it's a bloody good map on the whole though.

It's very good - I'm filling it in now!

I can't work out what's going on with Thameslink though, the line is shown doing West Hampstead, Kentish Town, but the line seems to continue into Euston, rather than towards Kings Cross TL.

Here is mine.

Not bad for a Northerner :p

I don't recall all the tube lines (think its mostly right) but I've got all the DLR and National Rail!

Nice work, must have taken you weeks to do.

an error i've notuced tho on the LHR branch, CTA-T4 is only single line, also as it leaves CTA - T4, the T5 branches off to the right with an UP and a DN branch.

Thanks for the comments, I'll try and complete mine soon!

I'll add some of the other lines in v2 and update it with other tweaks. TMD is Traction Maitenance Depot so I hope all of them are right, but ill add the other TMDs.

Also coming along is the NetworkMap v1.0

thanks for your help,
James.

A request for version 2, could you make it mainly identical in shape, so that you can put it in paint and use the option to put it over the top, without the background colour showing (do you get what i mean?), and then we don't have to fill in all the things again?

That'd be very helpful.

errm no not really...?

BTW you dont have to draw over the lines like JsT, the idea of the sections and gaps in the lines is so you can fill it in green or whatever making it easier.

Also can you explain Kesteral?

What Kestrel meant is that T123/CTA to T4 is single track only, with 2 platforms at either end.

CTA to T5 is double track.

What I sort of meant (this is probably still confusing but i'll try)

When you select the dotted rectangular crop thing in paint (it calls it 'select') you have the option of the following two settings:
1.gif

For this example, I have drawn two identical red circles, except one is filled green:
2.gif

Pretend that the circle on the left is version 1 of your map, which I have filled in, but the circle on the right is the new version 2. If I select the right circle and move it over the left circle with the top setting selected as shown, the right circle covers up the left circle:
3.gif

If I select the bottom setting, as shown, the white disappears from inside version 2 so that it can be placed above version 1 without the user having to refill the section:
4.gif

So what I'm suggesting is that for version 2, you leave the map with the same shape, but with various additions to make it easier for the user. If you don't want to do it then don't and we will still be grateful for the work that you've put into this map -- but if you want to make it even easier to use, this is (in my opinion) the way to do it!

Do you get that?

I don't get that at all...

I use the fill option and choose green to fill in the gaps between the lines, in the box shapes, to highlight my coverage. Which I believe is how James intended it to be done.

When I finish colouring in mine, which is nowhere neae completed, I'll upload it and show you what I mean.

That's not what I'm on about, I know how to fill in the gaps, but I'll do that and then when James brings out a version 2, I'll have to fill it all in again. My above post is just a request for a way in which that could be avoided.

Sorry for that confusion.

Makes sense...If I were in your shoes there then I'd just wait until v2 of the map and colour it in then!

It should be possible to select the v1 map with the Select tool and drag it over the v2 map, which should then leave any gaps new to v2.

But it would be just as easy to do the colouring of the v2 map I reckon!

Yeh that's true. The problem is most likely to be where there have been changes to the spelling of stations (ie Harlsden to Harlesden) but it's all only minor.

Another little add-on from me.

Includes 'remodelling' of the King's Cross area, to make it more user-friendly as the original addition was quite confusing. Also, I've tidied up the areas around Oxford Circus and Kentish Town.

Hopefully, if you place this over James's original the ends of lines should match up.

Thanks again for the map,

Jonny.

Woops, I forgot to post the actual update.

I think it's accurate although those that know me will know that I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to railways!

EDIT: I noticed some problems with the colours probably caused by the way I saved the file. Ive reuploaded as a PNG which, I hope, works.
EDIT2: BTW, I am aware that I have King's Cross positioned the wrong side of St Pancras but it's practically undrawable if I correct that.
