Nottingham 'Bus War'

One rumour is that they're introducing a new variant of the route (alongside the green and blue routes) to serve new parts of the area. Mickleover has seen more than its fair share of new developments recently.

I've often thought that a bus every 30 minutes straight down Uttoxeter Road to tesco, then to the new developments at the end of Station Road and on to Radbourne Lane could do ok- although Arriva have already extended to Radbourne Lane. There is also the development at the old Pastures Hospital site, plus lots of houses planned between Ladybank Road and the old railway line.

Perhaps an express from Mickleover onto the bypass to the Royal Hospital ( the Mickleover Flyer?)

YourBus have also registered changes to the 59. It appears from the derbybus description that TB have taken the M-Su service commercial, and YB are continuing the tendered Su service.

Does this suggest this service was doing better than people thought if it's worth Yourbus not only operating commercially but in competition (and not usefully providing passengers with buses at different times)?

Y1 going Derby to Heanor only from the 14th August as well. Shame as I thought the Eastwood extensions seemed to be doing fairly well.

I wonder where that leaves the Y10? It is now isolated from the rest of their network. There do seem to have been a significant number of changes at YB in the past week. I wonder if they are trying to focus on more profitable"core" services.

Y10 is run off of some sort of school run hence the vehicle used and thus the fact it is still running. Presumably if they lost the schools run, who knows.....

Nottinghamshire county council have published significant changes to their tendered network from the 1st August. Perhaps the most notable appears to be the loss of the daytime link between Ollerton & Newark except on Market Days.

TB have stated on their website that they will exchange any monthly Y4 ticket for a seven day zone B ticket.

To help keep customers moving when Y4 finishes towards the end of July, between 27 June and 1 July you can exchange any valid Y4 monthly ticket for a free saver7 A & B zone weekly pass (valid on i4).

Whilst that in itself is unsurprising, they do seem to have made the Y4's demise public before YB have stated it through their own publicity, and in fact they are still including the Y4 in their geany advertising. They must have stopped selling monthlies on that route without warning the purchaser of the limited lifetime of its usefulness though.

I wonder if NCT could pull off a similar stunt on their 28 and 30. A easyrider with a few days on it perhaps? Probably would have a tangible cost of a couple of quid a go.

Traveline is showing a new Nottsbus 747 from 30th August hourly 10am-2pm Lowdham-Epperstone-Woodborough-Calverton-Caravan Park-Oxton. Looks like Oxton & Epperstone are loosing through links to Nottingham apart from the Calverton Connection extensions.

Seem to have cut the evening journeys down the last one through one from Nottingham to Derby is 21.05 Monday to Saturday while on Sundays it is 18.25 and the weekend nightbus has also been cut.

I noticed that too, some severe pruning of the evening Y5, doesn't look good!

What maybe more significant is that Y36 is to terminate in Beeston rather than running through to Chilwell.
The evening service is also withdrawn from around 2130.

I'd be interested to see a timetable, when I saw the times and route change registered, shortly after the withdrawal of the Y4, I did wonder if it was a bit more creative. Whilst chilwell has been dead in the water since the tram started, I could have seen Nottingham to Stapleford/sandiacre via Beeston and Toton as a goer.

To be honest the variety of veichles on the y36 has been the norm for the last few months. Mind you NCT have been providing a bit of variety on the 36 as there has been an omi dekka every day recently.

NCT always seem to have an awful lot of variety during the summer months - wonder if it's heavy maintenance season with both the Uni's being off and other Term Time only services not running leading to a lot of spare buses?

Frequency is reduced on some of the busier routes too, reflecting generally lower demand. In 2013 they certainly had plenty of buses spare to help out with the station blockade.

IIRC They also bought a few second hand units with newer Euro 4(?) engines and after the blockade sold their own ones with older (Euro 3?) engines.

Sky Blue 47 is operated on a commercial basis by NCT between Nottingham, Mapperley Plains and Lambley, with Nottinghamshire County Council funding an additional bus on the route that allows it to extend to Woodborough, Calverton, Oxton, Moor Lane Caravan Park, Epperstone and Lowdham.

Three buses currently operate on Sky Blue Line routes 46 and 47 and without the financial support from Nottinghamshire County Council, the number of buses will have to reduce to two.

NCT have looked closely at passenger use on these services and will be able to maintain a commercial service between Woodborough, Lambley, Mapperley Plains and Nottingham City Centre, using the two buses available on a circular basis around Woodborough and Lambley.

The route for the 46 and 47 between Nottingham, Mapperley and Mapperley Plains is unchanged. From Mapperley Plains / Spring Lane mini roundabout, buses will operate as either a clockwise (46) or anti-clockwise (47) loop:

Sky Blue 46 will continue along Mapperley Plains, passing the Traveller’s Rest PH then right Nottingham Road and Bank Hill into Woodborough. Buses will return to Nottingham along Woodborough Main Street, right Lingwood Lane, Lambley (Church Street, Main Street) and Spring Lane (passing Gedling Country Park) back to Mapperley Plains and the City
Sky Blue 47 will turn right onto Spring Lane passing Gedling Country Park, Lambley (Main Street, Church Street), Woodborough (Lingwood Lane, Main Street) then left Bank Hill, Nottingham Road to Mapperley Plains and back to the City passing Traveller’s Rest PH

It is good that Woodborough and Lambley are going to retain their regular service into Nottingham. I can fully understand why the service will be withdrawn between Oxton, Epperstone and Lowdham but I am surprised that it is being completely withdrawn between Woodborough and Calverton. Although Woodborough is quite a large village, it does not have many facilities such as shops and more importantly doctors surgery etc. Many people from Woodborough use these facilities which are shared between the two villages in Calverton and I think some older people will be really inconvenienced regarding getting to the doctors in Calverton. I'm surprised that the County Council aren't subsidising a limited number of services a day between the two neighbouring villages for that reason.
It is a pity that the NCT route 47 and Trent Barton Calverton Connection couldn't have been combined to form a circular route which linked Woodborough with Calverton even if just during the day on an hourly basis. A Nottingham, Mapperley Plains, Spring Lane, Lambley, Woodborough, Calverton, Arnold, Sherwood, Nottingham circular in each direction could provide many useful journey opportunities and may even be quite profitable.

Sorry my fault. I should have fully read the link. That's good as I think many older people from Epperstone and Oxton in addition to Woodborough use the bus to Calverton for shopping, library etc and more importantly doctors.

Must be decades since a regular service ran along that bit of Mapperley Plains, past the Travellers Rest pub. I know there were some circulars at rush hour when Notts & Derby ran the 7 that used Bank Hill to run to/from Nottingham.

Some 62-plate Citaros of Yourbus have been for sale in the trade press for the past few weeks, along with some 03-plates. No prices are given but it says that 'all genuine and realistic offers will be considered'.

I imagine the longer ones, seating 42, will be for the Mickleover service but there's only eight of them - so will the Mickleover have a mixture of Enviros and Eclipses?

From what Travel Line is saying Y5 will run from Bay 3 in Broadmarsh and f4 on Friar Lane ( the busy stop), as of Nov 2015 that stop was 95% full , with only 1 slot per hour available. Pulling back on Indigo and not replacing those Trent Barton departure's with another Barton's bus will cost Barton's tens of thousands a year!
