The new livery 150 looks very smart, I like I like, but im not too sure about the yellow handles, perhaps Arriva turquoise yould've been better? The yellow looks almost like what London Midland would've done them like had any of their 150s had those seats

158845 has had DDA modifications but no interior refurb. It has interior screens inside that resemble those being fitted to the 150s with orange LEDs rather than those colour screens fitted to 158752/3/6.
So looks like there will be two differing styles on Northern's 158s!

The slow pace makes me wonder if Arriva (DB ) are in for the duration. 15 months in and not much seems to have changed.
K

The pace is slow because when they've been stripped back to bare metal inside and out they've found more problems with the actual body than they were expecting. So not been as straightforward as planned to be.

What make are the orange LED screens does any1 know? They could do with using better quality ones that don't flicker in that annoying way! Hopefully the new-build units will have better ones

I'm MASSIVELY looking forward to the refurbished 155 coming out!!!!

Why a refurb on a 155 has got to be the ultimate in turd polishing

I'd put it on a par with 144012 and the GWR 143 on the turd-polishing scale...

GWR 143620 hasn't actually been refurbished inside, the only thing that's changed is the exterior has been painted green I believe.

Ah yes, I remember reading about that on the GWR livery page. An interior refurb would be pointless with the scrapheap looming.

From my limited travels on GWR 143's I seem to recall they are far better internally than many Northern 142's anyway.

It will be interesting to see what services the turd polished 155's end up on once the new and cascaded stock arrives, mind it could be the end of the franchise before all 7 are refurbished at current rates:lol:

I would rather have a 155 than a 150, so a special request from me to put them on the Pontefract Line. However it looks like 3-car 150s will be the new norm.

The economics of the body repairs to the almost 30 year old rust bucket 155 and 153's against buying new must be very shaky particularity when they don't earn a penny for 15 months or so.

I agree with the point about the Orange LED destination blinds. They're truly woeful.

They flicker constantly and the text is too small in size and in definition. Also, they don't scroll, so longer destinations get abbreviated e.g. Manchester OR or Liverpool SP.

I honestly believe that the traditional roller blinds were easier to read from a distance. The type of display fitted to Merseyrail 507s/508s would have been far better.

Looks like 156481 is the latest for PRM mods at Springburn whilst 156472 is now at LNWR for a repaint, having already been PRM'ed.

Of the 42 Northern 156s, none of the Porterbrook 18 have been PRM'ed, but I make it that 156481 will be the 16th from the 24 Angel ones to be done - just 438/448/468/469/475/480/488/490 left, unless there is better info out there!

Am I correct in assuming that the 156's after refurbishment will have the same seat covers they had before?

I think the Merseyrail ones are the same make as the London Midland ones, although don't quote me on that!
Do the different areas (ie North West, Yorkshire, North East) have different voices for the automated announcments? coz I think I heard that somewhere; hopefully the Yorkshire based units don't use that awful voice that the 319s do!

It has been well discussed that there have been no changes at all but those for PRM compliance - painted handlebars, door sounders and accessible toilets.

We can only assume (and hope) that at some point a 156 with either new seat covers or completely new seats will appear, complete with new painting and carpeting, wifi, sockets, and so on.

In most cases the PRM stuff is being done separately from the refurbishment. Several 150s didn't even get the new livery, but it seems that they (and the 156s) are currently being painted as they get their accessibility mods, for now. Even the 158s are apparently due to go in for new seats sometime in the future. If and when the 155 comes out of Neville Hill, I assume the interior will have been completely redone.

I went on new livery 150137 today. It has PIS/PRM and is repainted white inside with blue side panels and light gray on some lower areas. The seat frames, with yellow handles, and flooring seem new, but the seat material is unchanged and probably just cleaned. Perhaps new coverings will be supplied in the future. New cushions to replace the flat and collapsed old design are needed. Overall, the impression is quite good, but I wonder how long the white paint will look clean.

There was a management chap from within the project who has told some staff that the units painted in the old livery were done 'in error', that all partial refurbishments will be in the new livery without any logos or branding, and those that are "fully refurbished" will be in the full new livery. I suspect, however, that this is a change of plan rather than any sort of error occuring, and that they may have to rethink this again as they have already implied* that some units in the full livery are not finished and they have two or three more 'phases' to get through on some, if not all, the units.

* I'd like to say 'said', but 'said' implies they have been quoted correctly and it seems popular to deny anything previously reported, correctly, as said which becomes inconvenient at a later date.
