then substitute for 156s on Liverpool-Blackpool using the next ones terminating at Preston until Preston-Blackpool is complete.

That was suggested on another forum and the conclusion was there's 4 diagrams on Liverpool South Parkway-Blackpool services, while running a connecting Preston-Blackpool shuttle using a single diagram won't work, so that potentially leaves only 2 units released. It could also cause a lot of inconvenience when people return from the Blackpool illuminations on late trains especially if they have an onward connection at Liverpool so may cost the rail industry a lot in taxi fares? Not to mention the more obvious losing the direct Liverpool South Parkway (for Liverpool Airport) to Blackpool service may result in a number of suitcases having to be dragged around large interchange stations.

And don't forget the suitcases that are likely to end up on coaches or in cars in that case...

I have seen no reports of Edge HIll to Earlestown being delayed. When was this reported please?

I think it should all be ready onetime given the lightning progress i've seen of late. Most of the wires seem to be going up.
But I think it should already be under test if its going to be ready for December, otherwise its cutting it fine.
And major projects not overrunning :P

I think the illuminations finish in November so wouldn't be this year. Hopefully, phase 2 would be finished by 2015 illuminations.

You said before "then substitute for 156s on Liverpool-Blackpool using the next ones terminating at Preston until Preston-Blackpool is complete."

Which implied you're proposing chopping the service until at least the May 2016 timetable change: http://www.networkrail.co.uk/North_West_electrification.aspx

They were working so hard on the wires this morning they were still going at 6am! Somewhere Huyton way. I believe the last road railer was still out and delaying trains.

Hey ho. They had things back to normal by 09:00... ish.

The work was said to be near Earlestown, so probably steelwork erection.
Wires are a fair way off there.

Yeah its really cracking on when I've seen it.
They've been doing concretes during the day when I've been out that way.
They'll not be far off with it but possibly having left some big problem till the last minute :/

RRV broke down near Earlestown this morning, so the possession could not be given back on time.

Believe the plan is for two days a week initially, then four. They should start very soon.

Merseytravel have already stated that Liverpool to Blackpool will remain diesel hauled until Preston-Blackpool is electrified. There is a huge passenger flow from south of Preston which is catered for by the hourly service.

Also trains terminating at Preston from either Liverpool or Blackpool have to share the congested platform 1 and 2 island with all other services on these routes, or cross to the fast lines creating extra conflicts. Introducing two more of these would probably be unworkable.
