The 322s were acquired around the same time as the ex-LM 150s which are all in full Northern livery. Maybe there was an issue with obtaining suitable vinyls for a small number of 322s?

Doesn't look too shabby (for now!) - I think that's a fairly acceptable appearance externally, even if the DDA-compliance highlights around the doors is a little garish. They need to look the part on the inside though!

Looks pretty good to me. The seat covers are the new Northern standard. No more Stripes.

Not a bad start and certainly a perfectly adequate condition for them to enter service in! It would be nice, however, if the next franchise includes something a bit more comprehensive for them.

They're grey powder coated, aren't they? Or are the door ones chrome? But I'm surprised they are not a brightly contrasting colour as I thought they had to be. Yellow would go quite well with that interior.

The /3 and /4 ones had/have pink handrails, it is the /0 and /2 that have the unpainted ones.

D'oh! Quite right, I should have looked more closely at the picture. That's fine then, carry on - I'm surprised to see them not in a more outlandish colour though, I thought DDA regs mandated they contrasted with the floor/wall colour, but perhaps not...

I would say passengers will be very happy with them if they are all done to this standard and are reliable. Whatever happens don't let the Londoners see them otherwise they may want them back.

Now in the new franchise, we should be looking at what will actually do these routes proud. I'm thinking air con, tables at 2+2 seats and carpets. Presume the toilets won't need further work.

Having gone to London on one on Monday, for the first time ever I had a tinge of sadness about their imminent departure. All the more so now I've seen the photos of what could have been.

Further work is going to happen with Porterbrook fitting one universal loo in replace of the current two small ones along with PIS added. Will be interesting to see what the new franchise does over this work.

....and apart from the specific legal requirements of toilets, that is exactly what is needed for the NW electrified lines. PIS would also be a useful benefit to all.

I really don't think one loo is enough.The units are 4 cars and will later on be used on journeys certainly of 1.5 hours and longer. It is frequently the case that loos are out of order (so none on the Train) and that's not to mention those thoughtless people who will occupy one for most of their journey for various reasons.

I agree, there should be two, one of which should be a conventional non-accessible one (for reasons of space and door reliability, though given that the external doors of trains are reliable I never quite understood why the doors of accessible bogs were so temperamental).

Given the layout of the 319, I can see how that might be unaffordable, though - new tanks etc.

PIS has already been added, this is the same refurb as the Thameslink one I posted a couple of pages back.

In all seriousness I think the new livery looks good - I always thought the upswept ends looked odd, almost backwards as you'd expect the upsweep towards, not away from, the driving end.
