Northern Rail Class 150 & 142 Refreshment

I know that 142033 has been refresh and is to a Good Standard but last Night i noticed that 150274 has had a refreshment is this the only one of these to be done so far and is 142033 the only 142 to be treated or are there others been done.

I noticed with 150274 that they have taken away the bench seat and three seats from where they bench seat and partition was.

I must say form what i saw of it it looked pretty good unfortunately i did not get a ride on it as was on another train at the time which was the 19.52 from LLST to NOTT.

I saw it at MOX at about 20.35 hours so it would have been working the 21.43 MOX-LLST so hopefully i may see it today sometime as i didn't see it in LLST when i returned latter.

If My bike hadn't have been parked in M-PIC then i would have probably jumped on it which is just typical but i was not aware that these unrefurbished 150s where going to be treated but really they should have started on the FNW batch first which are in greater need.

I Disagree The Ex Yorkshire 150's are all in Vile Conditions Especially the Toilets and near the Drivers cab. Think 142032 has had some Modifications done in the Cab like repainting etc but its not had anything done in the Passenger area. Think 150275 is being done aswell?

142071 will be the First ex Arriva 142 Treated.

The Ex ATN 150/2's are definately in the worst state, aside from new seat covers in about 2003 they have never been refurbished! They were one of the last sets of units in regional railways too!

142071 was a rumour but has been out in service unrefurbished since. 142032 has a white cab and the red fabric panels have been replaced with red painted panels, however the paint is already chipping off, or it was when I went on it on Friday!

The only trouble with 142033* is that they didn't paint the ceiling or the grab rails which in my view would have made a huge difference plus not to keen on the pink wall panels.

150274 does look impressive though and admittedly the condition of them did appear to deteriate when transferred to Newton Heath but yet still an improvement on most of the FNW refurbished 150 units lets hope that they start Looking after them better now.

And let’s hope that they start refreshing the FNW 150s soon to as these are absolutely filfy rotten dirty and attract pigeons and wouldn’t like to imagine what else creeps around when stabled.

One thing noticed about 142067 which I was on last night was that FGW seemed to have looked after these quite well and replaced all of the wall panels from Brown to pale Blue which is certainly better than Northern’s Pink.

I do like Norhern's upholistry thogh that very dark purple is a great colour and the stripes look smart.

You think 142067 looks nice, you should see the FGW refurbished example. Nice shiny new paint all over!

I came back on 142033 today from Leeds to Skipton (a Morecambe service) and to be quite honest if you try and refurbish a 142 it won't make it any better than it ever was. 142's are at the end of their lives and I bet that by 2010 some of the class will have been withdrawn as life expired.

While its never going to be Business class on an airline, at least an effort is being made to tidy the trains up a bit.

I like the Northern moquette, its understated and easy on the eye it looks good on high backed seating and also on the bench seating in the 142.

Yes, you're correct. they had various BR moquettes until 2006 when they began to paint them, then the Regional Railways 'dotty' moquette, with a 'Northern purple twist' was fitted.

I can only assume the photo of the Northern with 'vertical stripe' moquette has been subsequently retro-fitted with that style, as that is Northern's latest moquette, as applied to their 'refreshed' 155s and 158s. I don't really see how it is dated- horizontal stripes are very 80s - especially when you mix orange with brown and blue- as on the ATN 150s until 2006ish!! Of note, there are a couple of the aforementioned 150/2s that retain the '80s moquette' on the bench seats at the end of the coach. Also, to Mojo, I personally think the 'BR' 150 seats are far superior to the 'Richmond' seats, as fitted to North West Trains 150 refurbished units. I think all the ex-Central ones still retain their original seats too.

Ex-FNW 150s and 156s have Chapman seats, as do ex-Alphaline 158s and the ATW Pacers.

Richmond seats are found in ex-ATN 156s.

I bet you £100 that Northern haven't got rid of Pacers by the end of 2010, we may be getting extra trains but there is no way to replace the 80-90 units we have.

Frankly we don't have a choice, the units we have coming in are not going to make up for what we're losing and replacing all of the Pacers. I imagine we can withdraw some of the older and more neglected units but no way for all of them. I honestly wouldn't be suprised if the 144's especially make it to the DDA deadline which is sometime around 2014.

hmm, where abouts of that? Most of the lines out of Leeds are high quality continuous rail, ride quality is normally very good, even on a Pacer.

I was going from Leeds to Skipton on a Morecambe train on a 142-betwen Leeds and Shipley was like hell but it was peak so he was probably accellerating a bit hard
