The Merseytravel ones also recieved big flipdot screens on the front, which assuming they weren't being washed out by sunlight, were easier to read from a distance than the tiny blinds. I'm not sure why big blinds, such as were used on buses, never caught on for the front of trains in this country.

My guess would be that it would be a very expensive mod to change train displays whereas your average Wright or Plaxton bodied box could have a considerably cheaper conversion kit to fit. Probably would come in a range and have little of the PRM bolleaux required for trains.

What I meant was why weren't trains built from the start with boxes for large blinds, rather than the tiny ones?

In theory could it actually happen that these units could find their way back to Manchester in service on Transport for Wales services via Chester or via Crewe?
150270 currently heading to Manchester then back to Milford Haven, didn't take too long!!

That would be a great ride!

Not for anybody on it. Having a TfW 150 is one thing, at least they have tables and 2+2 seating, but a 3+2 150 with no tables for a long distance service would be a bit rubbish.

(Although better than a cancelled train and an hour wait for the following 2 coach 175)

I disagree; I would have done exactly that. Or taken it to Stockport and join the 175 on the inbound arrival from South Wales so I had a seat without fighting for one at Piccadilly.

269 was on the Valley Lines today. Really did catch me by surprise when a Northern unit trundled past me at Cardiff.

I had that one to Barry Island on Monday.

Was rather wierd to say the least being sat on a fully Northern branded unit, which I've had to and from home plenty of times over the years, riding past Canton TMD looking out at Mk4s and a distant GWR HST!

I did that a few months ago after a kickball game in Manchester. Headed to Stockport on a wedged out Pendo to change to board the inbound 175 and simply remained on board during the turnaround at Piccadilly where it departed F&S leaving a lot of passengers behind (as Avanti had cancelled a London service so passengers with open tickets were told to go via Crewe)

Thought it was worth noting that 150269 + 150270 were coincidentally allocated to the same 4-150 diagram today, so the two Northern units have been coupled together all day, alongside 769s and the daily 231 on the Rhymney Valley. I believe this is the first time they've worked together for TfW.

I'd have loved to get a photo of a four carriage multi-set Northern service in South Wales, had it been on the usual Cathays route I would have done. Would have been even better to get a picture of it alongside 231001 which was in service again today.

Definitely one way to maintain capacity almost disappointed they haven't ventured to Pembroke for a while
