Or even any sort of service from huddersfield to wakefield....It's a shame that there isn't a route in West Yorkshire that could make use of two spare 150s instead of being reduced to a peak-only bus service...
Oh, wait.![]()

Extract from video. Expected on DML but came in on Platform 4
Can you link us the video? Interesting how the Northern "n"s are still present - I wonder what TfW are going to do about operator logos? The "n"s are still there but as far as I'm aware the Northern wording has been removed.ThanksCan you link us the video? Thanks. Weren’t these with AtW originally150270 is out working today on the Valleys.
When I read that they had been "prepared externally at depot ready for transfer" I assumed that included removal of the logos. Obviously not!View attachment 117741
Came as they were. Nice and Clean. Can't seem to attach link to video.
Still a few months, would have thought it would be worth it for the sake of having to change them again later. Why would they remove the Northern logos? They’re only on temporary transfer until December 1st.
I think if you paste the link into a post it will embed it.View attachment 117741

Yes but earlier. Ie with Regional Railways South Wales and West. Then with Wales and Boarders before transferring to Northern Spirit.Thanks. Weren’t these with AtW originally
They were always Valley Lines units after privatisation until transfer to NS (1998 or 1999). Never worked for Wales & Borders as they were gone long before it existed (2001) or indeed Wales and West who preceded W&B.Yes but earlier. Ie with Regional Railways South Wales and West. And ironically about twenty of the 150s that are in TfW livery show in Arriva livery150270 was used yesterday. Shows on RTT on TFW livery when it isn't.
was working to treherbert solo todayIn the early to Late Nineties prior to transfer to Northern Spirit .
Those two quite often was a reqular on the Valley lines and around Cathays.
However at the time was only in the Standard BR livery. True to the word if they do turn up now. Would be a classic complete with Northern full logos and Branding. Proud to be Northern.
In the valleys. However if Coupled up with a new TFW livery 150. Those two livery together. Will look smart and quite unique.
I suppose 'in theory,' the twins could reach anywhere that the natives go; assuming that Control don't police their use very closely they could end up at Birmingham International too!In theory could it actually happen that these units could find their way back to Manchester in service on Transport for Wales services via Chester or via Crewe?
150269/270 were Canton based Valley Lines units but went to Northern long before ATW took over. My last ride on 150269 was in the late 1990s.Thanks. Weren’t these with AtW originally
They transferred north to Northern Spirit (RRNE franchise) in about 1998 which was 6 years before Northern existed.150269/270 were Canton based Valley Lines units but went to Northern long before ATW took over. My last ride on 150269 was in the late 1990s.
Yes fair point. I should have said they went north. They transferred north to Northern Spirit (RRNE franchise) in about 1998 which was 6 years before Northern existed.
If it's not too off-topic to ask, which depot did they go to initially? I remember Northern Spirit 150s being pretty rare through Huddersfield during early privatisation, other than the Manchester Vic to Wakefield services (even those were far more likely to be a 142) which were RRNW/North Western Trains/First North Western depending on when it was. The non-Trans-Pennine NS services were predominantly Pacers and 155/156/158s.They transferred north to Northern Spirit (RRNE franchise) in about 1998 which was 6 years before Northern existed.
Neville Hill as far as I am aware. If it's not too off-topic to ask, which depot did they go to initially? I Remember late 1999 early 2000s.Neville Hill as far as I am aware.
Also was hot favourites on the Arriva Trains Northern services Calder valley lines especially Manchester Victoria services. However also did work to Blackpool North as well. As well as on the Leeds to Sheffield. Due to this Neville Hill Depot was there base.
I expect they went to Neville Hill. There were only 10 so maybe eight diagrams. If it's not too off-topic to ask, which depot did they go to initially? Thanks for this. 150208 also had a spell around Manchester (was it still FNW then?) in 2001. Somewhere I have a photo of it. At the time there were plenty of Strathclyde class 101s milling about too. There were plenty of class 142 swaps on the Valleys. I had 25 of them in or out of Cardiff. A few of them had the original bus seats. The 150’s started their transfer north with 150268 which was split and one car sent to Leeds and one to Sheffield for crew familiarisation. The remainder.(150269 - 277) came in 2 batches (269 - 274 then later 275 - 277) from Valley Lines in exchange for 11 x 142’s, some of which were already refurbished by NS. The 142’s with the NS refurb were then swapped with some unrefurbished examples from NS (probably ATN by then) so VL could implement their own refurb. I remember working several units after the 142 shuffle with VL internal branding and indeed the Valley Lines logo in place of the RR logo on the outside around 2001/02. VL of course received 4 units from NWT also.
Also there were 2 x 150’s transferred from Scotrail just after the VL units (150228/245) although 245 transferred to Anglia railways in around 2002 then ended up with Central Trains and finally ATW.
Incidentally when the remainder of the Scotrail 150’s transferred to ATW 3 examples went on temporary loan to ATN in 2004, these being 150208, 256 & 284. I was lucky enough to work all 3.
Under ATN they could turn up anywhere mainly Leeds - Sheffield stoppers, Leeds - Knottingley/Goole, Calder Valley to replace a 155, 156 or158, Leeds - Morecambe (I’m sure one was diagrammed to the 1019 LDS - MCM for a period) and even on class 1 work when desperately short of stock. They even found their way on to the triangle.
Yes FNW was still in existence in 2001. I didn’t realise that they had the loan of 150208 to be honest. They did loan 142069 in full refurbished VL regalia (can’t remember exactly when, possibly 2003/04 just before the merger). It was pretty much exclusively worked on the Blackpool South - Colne service due to it having less capacity than the FNW fleet which worked into the cities although I do remember seeing it in Man Vic, possibly on an Oldham loop service. Thanks for this. 150208 also had a spell around Manchester (was it still FNW then?) in 2001. Correct....I drove all 12 of them on the 10 19 Leeds-Morecambe diagram, or as class 308 substitutions on the Leeds NW triangles, over a period of three years or so.Leeds - Morecambe (I’m sure one was diagrammed to the 1019 LDS - MCM for a period) and even on class 1 work when desperately short of stock.
