They should really include carriage lengths in press releases as well. Northern got 23m carriages replaced by 20m carriages while FGW got 15.5m carriages replaced by 20m carriages. So from the Press Releases not mentioning carriage length it sounded like Northern had got a better deal than they had and that FGW had got a worse deal than they had.

I don't mind, as long as people are consistent.

But using the number of carriages carries the risk that someone will mistakenly use the figure but ascribe it to the number of actual trains (as has happened here).

If we did have four hundred local trains that were over thirty years old then we'd really have to tackle things - methinks someone is being disengenuous here...
