Finally got my hands on my first new style ticket on Saturday- a VTEC Advance collected from a VTEC machine at Kings Cross [emoji3] there is a small overlap on the railcard text which looks like it should be easy to move, but overall the print is extremely clear and I like the new tickets a lot.

Still haven't seen a single one from a machine south of London though [emoji46]

Well I have been thinking that for months and guess what has happened so far? ;)

Haha you can't claim to be surprised that nothing has happened, surely? I'm sure after 8 or 9 years of RPIs complaining about it and a few thousand appeals for penalty fares and fines, I'm sure they'll get around to making the fix [emoji14]

I was going to start a new thread on this today but directed here

I always thought advances and receipts should be more notably different than tickets as this is a constant cause of confusion amongst my beloved punters

But now things are worse. OK some advances now include reservation details on one ticket but you need a magnifying glass!! And where child and railcards were bold and black they are less identifiable as well as the term 'under 16' instead of child!

Slows down the checking of tickets!

Still loads of passengers who are clueless they need the reservations for the advances and hand you reservations only and continuously make jokes about not knowing which tickets they should hand me...

Some punters do not engage their brains when it comes to understanding the tickets but tis doesn't help

One thing I've thought about with this ticket redesign is that with the exception of this forum, I've not seen any promotion that the ticket design is changing.

Now, I haven't necessarily looked anywhere, but will any other non-railway people look anywhere? If they're not expecting the design of their tickets to change, why will they? How much - if any - confusion has there been as a result of this change?

Of course, I will readily stand corrected if there has been promotion that I've missed!

ATOC / RSP have released press releases that have reached the front page of websites like Daily Mail online a few times.

Also, I find it strange that tickets print with "Under 16 years old" when the button on the ticket machine says "Child". Surely it would make far more sense the other way round!

My girlfriend didn't have a clue and was quite puzzled when she got one until I grabbed it to inspect and then explained!

The under 16 thing is going to be a problem if rangers and rovers switch over due to the whole thing with Merseytravel redefining child as under 19.

I find it slower to spot which is the outbound and which is the return now, so goodness knows how revenue officers read the smaller text. I've got great vision so it's not that, just a lot more text.

And whether ATOC told the press about it or not, why no posters at stations to tell people.

And why not change every machine at a station or even on a route at once. Is it sensible to issue new tickets from a machine next to another issuing the old tickets?

I collected 3 Advance tickets today from the same machine at Sheffield. The EMT & XC ones were in the new format, the FGW was in the old format with a separate reservation coupon

You get a lot of confused and uncertain people the first couple of days after a machine goes over to the new style. Lots of people presenting receipts instead of tickets too, as they look very similar now.

If there was any sense they would print the receipts on a different stock like they do on the S+B machines on the Tyne and Wear Metro - or on a receipt roll like the Shere machines do...

Yesterday I still got old-style GA Only AP's from the Stansted Express branded machines at Liverpool Street. Booked online on the Southern website.

After several months of gradually seeing these tickets more frequently, I stand by my original comment somewhere back in the early days of this thread - checking these tickets is a bloody nightmare. No longer can you glance at them and see the required information quickly - I recently had an early morning commuter train and only got through one of the three carriages rather than the more normal two-and-a-vestibule or so. Simple reason: these tickets which require reading rather than scanning and the latest 'mobile tickets' on peoples' phones which a large number of passengers still seem to think they only need to activate if they are asked to.

One thing I've learnt from it - with the number of mobile tickets I've seen that are not activated before travel (I'd say well over half the mobile tickets I've checked), ticket prices are going to increase for your honest passenger because this seems like a chance to 'not pay unless I'm checked'. Just saying what I see:lol:

Having bought a ticket from Luton in the new style for the first time last week, I think they really are absolutely terrible. So much guff all over them and a complete lack of clarity.

I received one of these 'Mickey Mouse' tickets from the machines at Leeds yesterday. You need a microscope to read the travel details. Not impressed.

I just my first tickets of this design too, picked up from a TVM at Oxford. Maybe it is partly a question of having to get used to the new design, but my first impressions are less than positive, too. Still, there is no doubt the old design needed changing...

I personally quite like the new design, just not the way it's been implemented by some ticket machines.
, which can be rather variable. Comparing the text on an old style ticket with a new style ticket confirms the text is no smaller than present, and in some cases much larger.

TfL rail are issuing them, my views are a bit mixed.

Someone will be along shortly to point out that Gatwick Express isn't a TOC and doesn't have any ticket machines.

At least on a ticket machine with that printer, you can make the text out better than some machines with a really low resolution.

No-one pointed that out for Southern or Thameslink when they were mentioned before, who also aren't TOCs...

This specific ticket may solve a long-running mystery that has appeared in other threads.
Does 'NOT VIA LONDON' mean not via London Terminals or not via London Routeing Group.

From this picture, it would seem the industry believe it is Not via London Terminals.

And before any does I'm going to ask them not to do it as there are other thread for such a discussion to take place ;)
