They are in the Working Time Table, chap, but TPE don't start until sometime in December.

The Hazel Groves (all of them) are even showing on National Rail Enquires!

TPE have not applied to the ORR to revise calling patterns so will maintain current calling patterns.

Northern specified Manchester Victoria to Blackpool and Manchester Piccadilly to Blackpool services in their applications. The latter has just a couple of peak time services but it's possible Northern made an error in their application but I imagine they would have to reapply before they could actually revise the calling pattern of Hazel Grove to Preston services.

Here's Northern's application: http://www.networkrail.co.uk/browse...th SA - consultation closed 09 September 2011

TPE services have now been added to the working timetable to start October! If you have a look at National Rail Enquires this has been reflected and direct services are showing Buckshaw - Manchester Airport.

To recap -

2 x hourly Northern Service (Hazel Groves and Victorias)
1 x hourly TPE (Usually the Blackpool Service) but only off-peak. No peak time trains except from Preston towards Manchester in the evening peak.

So as TPE have not applied to change their calling patterns would it mean that they can more easily pull out of stopping there should patronage be low?

Interesting that TPE have added Buckshaw in, whilst Leyland remains off the timetable. As far as I understood it, the planning expectations were that Buckshaw would take some passengers away from Chorley, but still have an expected usage level lower than Leyland (but on a par with Adlington) on the Manchester services. If that's the case, any idea what the rationale is for Buckshaw seeing a TPE service?

Will be interesting to see what the passenger levels are like when it opens.

Pass, I suspect they'll probably give it a year though as Northern did with their Colne - Man Vic service.

It's a fair question, and one without an obvious answer. Both a Leyland and a Buckshaw stop would probably be overkill for a semi-fast service but that doesn't exaplain why TPE haven't called Leyland in the past, other than a couple of early morning services and a single evening call.

It maybe pathing reasons, perhaps, with the obvious point that Leyland is on the main line. The Blackpool service is only a few mintues in front of the Glasgow.

Blackpool stopper arrives at Preston at xx:19, Blackpool TPE arrives at Preston at xx:33, Scotland/Barrow TPE arrives at Preston at ~xx:55. There is the Preston terminator between them though, arrives at Preston xx:52 IIRC.

Anyone else not a fan of the whole naming stations 'Parkway' fad? It's in Buckshaw Village, so why not call it 'Buckshaw Village'?

I was referring to how the TPE arrives Preston at xx33 and the Virgin Glasgow arrives at xx38. That's a bit tight to add a Leyland call in.

Usually so it appeals to a wider catchment area and to advertise it's a park and ride style station.

Buckshaw Village sounds a bit parochial.

The signs are up :D

Some of the signage has been up for a week or two, it just had no lettering on it.

The station looks just about finished now and it looked like they were fitting the lighting up today when I passed through.

As I remember TPE sacrificed Leyland to add Buckshaw at the time of the 2008 rewrite of NW services. Could be wrong though.

If TPE are going to call here they need to alternate it with Chorley (i.e. 1tp2h each) NOT call at both. Otherwise the TPE would essentially be a local stopper with a trolley.

I think you are. Northern's Buxton to Blackpool service didn't serve Leyland while TPE's Man Airport to Blackpool service did. TPE took the opportunity of Northern running another stopper to remove some stops from it's services (which it had to do really anyway as paths were limited), Leyland was removed from all TPE Blackpool services (but gained 2 Northern services instead) while Horwich Parkway was removed from some of them and Salford Crescent was removed from Scottish/Cumbria services.

Really? So what's so appealing about the word 'parkway'? Before a few years ago, I hadn't heard of the word outside the United States, where it seems to be used for a wide road going through a park or park-like area in an otherwise urban setting. Also, is there really any evidence that people use park & ride facilities because of the term 'parkway' and wouldn't if it wasn't there? To me, it's a cheesy political word made up to try and come across as all modern & environmentally friendly.

Likewise, I see no distain with the word 'village'. If the place is called Buckshaw Village, than the station should be called 'Buckshaw Village'. A bit old-fashioned maybe, naming stations after places they reside in, but the logic still holds, as far as I'm concerned.

Steady on, I didn't come up with the name! I just suggest those as reasons for why they have chosen it! But personally if I hear the word parkway, I assume it to be a newish station aimed at park and ride. I'm probably not the only one.

Also, there often good reasons why you might call a station a name that conveys a slighly different meaning. Bristol Parkway and Didcot Parkway spring to mind. How long have they had those names?

Wasn't having a pop. Still, to me it's a cheesy PR thing that'll seem very retro in the not too distant future.

It seems to have one TPE service in each direction per day stopping at Buckshaw Parkway with a * next to it and the * meaning it's unconfirmed at time of going to press.

Of course the hourly off peak TPE service has definately been confirmed though now...

As regards bus connection to the station for commuter use, I know that there is the service 109 (Chorley - Leyland - Preston) that stops outside Runshaw College in Euxton and stops in Buckshaw Village itself, but is there any updated news with regard the station itself being served when opened?

Service 10 from Buckshaw Village to Rail Station onto Astley Village and Chorley

http://www.stagecoachbus.com/PdfUploads/Timetable_15673_10 10A (Chorley).pdf

Site visit by Stagecoach was on Wednesday morning.

Thank you for submitting this information, in response to my earlier query concerning bus connection to the new railway station. The number 10 route seems to offer a 30 minute service frequency to the new station. Chorley has had a good radial link to surrounding areas by local bus services for many years now.

Hmm. The usual un-ramped modular rubbish...

I can see why you might note the lack of ramps, but the requirements for ramps is now obsolete - mainly because the laid down angle always means that you lose about 20 feet of usable surface at each ramp.

When it comes to platform lengthening projects, using that overall 40 ft as part of the usable platform is often a significant proportion of the distance they want to gain, and providing a ramp as well could easily double or triple the cost - once they decided extensions could remove ramps, there wasn't much point in requiring them for new works.
