I've seen something on social media about the wrong shade of blue being used, a shade too dark was applied... Is this the usual social media nonsense?

Yes that is total nonsense. It looks much darker in photos than it does in reality. I’ve only seen one photo so far that accurately captures the colour.

I came across these myself the other day and must say that they look much smarter than either livery that has actually been applied since.

Just noticed on bustimes that Stagecoach Manchester electric 84024 has gone into the new navy blue livery. No proof shown but has definitely been in the paint shop recently. Seems a strange choice start applying the livery to the Manchester electrics that are passing to Metroline in just months…

Or sensible that if you're trialling it to put it on a bus someone else is going to have to pay to repaint if it doesn't work?

If the livery is still only a trail, it's probably a good idea to use some Manchester buses. They don't technically need to be painted yellow until January. It would give a good 5 months worth of feedback, remember if they stop it's probably not Stagecoachs problem to repaint them and if they don't then it's already painted! Win win!

What is the orange-tinted yellow base livery called?

I think that one is actually the better starting place - it's a bright vivid colour and mostly not hideous. The grey is very "Ember" and I don't think a dark colour works without more bright stuff for contrast with, well everything.

Believe the yellow was the "long distance" livery although never seemed clear what services actually counted as such.

Each time I see a new livery from Stagecoach it makes me wonder why did they change from Beachball in the first place. It looks smart, kept it’s colour well & worked on a number of different buses & coaches.

Beachball wasn't bad but didn't always keep it's colours well. The red faded horribly after several years and the orange would slowly tint into a rather sludgy colour....it also suffered depending on how the red was applied around the rear with exhaust staining. Those with a rear blue skirt tended not to suffer as much but were in the minority.

The Long-distance livery. My favourite of the new liveries as I think it's applied rather well (unless it's on one of Nuneaton's badly-repainted ADL E200MMCs!)

Probably need to see it in person to give it a proper judgement, but at least it should be easy to have a consistent application. There are so many slight variations in the application of the local livery, which I've disliked since day 1.

Several north east examples are on their 2nd repaint into local, one of which was then wrapped in a KFC advert for all of about 4 weeks, whilst there are still a decent number still in beach ball.

Agreed, the 22 in Devon which is around 2 hours long has had it's branded buses painted into local which are now all looking scruffy, yellow distance would have been more suitable.

Let's hope this time round they get it right;

I think the top one could have influenced the current Stagecoach SW recruitment advert bus, which I quite like. I do hope that what ever new livery comes in it does away with the yellow and brown ‘distance’ livery which is both horrible and pointless. As regards the new dark blue livery, my vote is against as it is too dark and will not wear well.

Here in the south west, it is used for both the Plymouth-Bristol Falcon (120 miles) and the Exeter-Exmouth 57 (11 miles).

I liked Beachball, it looked good on most buses and looked smart even on buses that were last painted years ago.

Stripes was good as well.

The new 'blue' one just looks boring.

Maybe an additional relief colour will be applied shortly, and that this all-navy livery is purely experimental for now?

The logo towards the rear looks like it's about to fall off the bus!

The trial livery (slate blue) would look good if the ball logo was applied like the local livery but brought up to avoid the lower skirt panels and kept off the rear. This is something I thought of... (also done a version where there could be a coachline of each of the 3 colours too)

For me, I feel that Stagecoach have been somewhat trapped into believing their logo defines the livery... It worked well with stripes but even that livery was fussy to maintain. FirstBus fell into the exact same hole with Olympia and it was overly complex and difficult to make and maintain.

A completely fresh sheet of paper is a good idea but such a dark colour will not wear well, no matter how it's painted.

I like that although a lighter shade of blue would be more visible for those with sight issues.

Can confirm this is the case; I saw it earlier. Note that this one omits the large logo from the back, so it's just the dark navy blue with small Stagecoach branding and the coloured bands between the light clusters at the front and rear.

I'd upload my photo but the lighting is very poor and there are plenty of much better ones already on Flickr.

That and this bus previously carried a special advertising livery, so if the advertising contract had ended it would need to be repainted at this point anyway.

There is a photo on there from 26th July of it returning to its depot after its MOT in a very tatty Zero Emissions livery

Looks nice, only issue is when the advert frames & adverts are applied it would go straight through the logo, the same issue that affected First with Barbie 1 & caused the introduction of Barbie 3 with the sharper willow leaf.

The was the Beachball logo is applied on the Gold X17 seen in the picture below would solve this issue.

Likewise for "The Kings City" of Winchester. A lot of fanfare at the time for it, only for it to rapidly disappear when Local came in and almost overnight saw all of the fleet bar the Green P&R E200s put into it.
