I was at Snow Hill yesterday at 5pm ish, and there was a 67 with a single Mainline business class coach on platform 3 - although they were not actually coupled together (close enough to be coupled though).

Anyone know the story behind that?

67015 with an Buffer car, it was coupled but around half 3 they uncoupled it, i was around on the snow Hill Lines yesterday but focusing the Class 172!

Does anyone have the current formations of the Chiltern loco hauled sets?

Cheers
Adapted from somebody elses' post elsewhere:
Chiltern loco hauled formations 26th August 2011:
Set AL01

82301, (10208), 12069, 12048, 12014, 12038
Set AL02
82302, 12094, 12124, 12043, 11029, 12xxx, 12xxx, 67018
Set AL03
82303, 10230, 12173, 12117, 12145, 12059
Set AL04
82304, 10236, 12131, 12072, 12053, 11040
Set AL05
82305, 10255, 12127, 12175, 12169, 12174

At this time AL01 is waiting for the return of 82301, and 10208 which was used for display purposes at Moor Street on Monday September 5th. The two unidentified vehicles in AL02 are one blue/grey TSO and one Virgin liveried TSO. Set 3 now has all of the external mainline decals applied and is currently having the WiFi modification completed. Set AL04 is currently at Wabtec Doncaster having powered doors fitted and should return in the full Chiltern Mainline livery, while 82304 is at Brush Loughborough having a generator set fitted to supply ETH power. Set AL05 now has all of the Mainline decals applied and like set AL03 is currently having the WiFi modification completed.

EDIT: The original post is in this very thread, post number 134: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showpost.php?p=778110&postcount=134

The unidentified coaches in set AL02 are 12054 (Virgin) and 12119 (blue & grey).

AL02 is actually formed 82302, 12054, 12119, 11029, 12043, 12124, 12094 + loco (currently 67 018), rather than as listed.

It looks like another set of Chiltern stock is en route to Doncaster, presumably for the fitting of plug doors, running at the moment on Tuesday 13th September 2011.

67015 is leading 5E00, 09:33 from Wembley LMD to Doncaster, presumably Wabtec, via the Chilterns to Tyseley and then Tamworth. It is hauling five Mk. 3s, RFM 10208 (which I think was the one on display at Moor Street last week) with Mainline branding, two silver TSOs without branding and two TSOs in blue/grey livery. No DVT on the train.

I got very little notice of this working and only had time to dash to Haddenham station to see it. It was scheduled to stop at Princes Risborough from 10:12 to 10:34 and I think it may well have been the first northbound working to use the new through line, where it was held for various service trains to overtake it.

There is already a set at Wabtec Doncaster, does anyone know if this is ready to be brought back?

Cheers, Geoff

Interesting - I guess there's a *lot* of training to be done for the Chiltern staff on these new doors....

Shown as going light Doncaster - Moor St this evening VSTP.

Went past Doncaster a few times in the last few days, and I'd swear that there's a rake of 3 Chiltern Mk3s sat towards the back. Presumably these waiting to go back!

Doors looked to be similar to Mk4 but not tapered and not so close to the end of the coach body. Hope someone grabs a snap tonight!

If the power doors are relatively easy to fit, why haven't they been put on the other Mk3s? I always thought it was far too difficult to do.

I assume the problem would be releasing the coaches from service to put the power operated doors on them. That or companies have just never had the inclination to do it. The Chiltern thing could open the floodgates though, as I would imagine the company who are fitting these doors will be offering their services to every other TOC who run Mark 3 coaches once the Chiltern contract is complete.

I think that whenever the idea of modifying one of the larger HST fleets came up, there were always parallel discussions going on about fleet replacement whether by HST2, or IEP, or in the GEML case, new EMUs.

Chiltern have presumably taken the view that their fleet is outside all those debates, and their Mk3s will have a justifiable service life, whatever happens elsewhere.

I doubt the whole HST fleet would get modified, only that subset deemed to have a long enough remaining service life - perhaps those earmarked for Devon and Cornwall for instance...

In another thread recently, didn't someone propose that it would be awkward to have a fleet partially modified, because passengers would have difficulty? Well I can't see much alternative to Chiltern having a crossover period, the first set modified will presumably have to operate on its own initially...

The irony is that during all of the time talking about replacements, the fact is the Mk3/HSTs have been continuing in service and now look likely to for many more years (and, given their recent refurbishments, deserve to do so).

The interiors are very pleasant environments for passengers and I doubt many people have complaints - so as long as they're structurally sound, why get rid of them?

So did that Mk3 rake at Wabtec get transferred to Moor Street last night? Can anyone confirm?

67015 was back at Wembley this morning and has now been swapped with 67018 on to set AL02. I'll try to find out the reason behind this swap tomorrow.

67015 ran light engine, as far as I'm aware from Doncaster to Moor Street on Tuesday. It worked up to Marylebone yesterday double-heading with 67012 on 1F91, the 06:55 from Moor Street, photo of the train at Princes Risborough:

I don't know anything further with regard to 67015 replacing 67018 on set AL02...

Cheers, Geoff
