Looking at Figure 1 in the below appendix, the benefits of a 7+2 formation can be seen. Initially from
0 to 25mph the acceleration rates are similar, however from upwards of 25mph the 7+2 formation
starts to pull away from the 9+2 formation. From the graph it can be seen it takes 4 minutes 20
seconds for the 7+2 formation to reach 125mph and the 9+2 formation takes 5 minutes, a 40
second benefit for the reduced formation.
Looking at figure 2 compares the 7+2 data against Azuma. It can be seen the Azuma still has a
better acceleration rate but the 7+2 formation 225 is not far behind. It roughly takes 4 minutes 10
seconds for an Azuma to reach 125mph and the 7+2 225 can do this in 4 minutes 15 seconds.
There is still a difference but only by 5 seconds for this section of line.
