There was a boxing or youth club on the right as you come into London Bridge from the south, with a big 'Sponsored by Network SouthEast' sign. Is that still there?

Downside Fisher Boys Club. They have a different sign now.

On the subject of the big red NSE clocks, there is (or was, they might have gone now) a big stack of them in the P/Way depot just outside Victoria. Some joker had set the segments on one of them so that it showed a letter P followed by 155.

And there is a factory of some sort next to the site of the old Addiscombe station (which is now a housing development) which has an old NSE Addiscombe sign from one of the platforms on its wall.

EM2, I think it's "Fisher Athletic Youth Club" (or something very similar) that you refer to - Fisher Athletic at one time, coinciding with the existence of NSE, having been a non-league football team of some repute. (The Wikipedia entry for Fisher Athletic seems to tell the story of their rise and fall pretty well). The sign was there the last time I travelled that route, but that might have been over a year ago now.

Edit: beaten to it, by someone with more exact knowledge of the matter than me

I used to recognise that when I went past when I went that way because they used to take us there for our swimming lessons when I was in primary school. At the time I didn't know where it was, but then I saw it from a train.

Not forgetting the wonderfully retro booking office at Shanklin station on the Isle of Wight. All green on the outside, but NSE on the inside!

No, I think he was right first time.

Network SouthCentral was the shadow franchise. Then it was Connex SouthCentral. When it was announced that Connex would lose the franchise, GoVia bought the operation early and traded as SouthCentral for three years - before re-branding as Southern.

That's right. Connex also got the Southeastern franchise which was equally as bad. They also used to print route maps and brand them as one company across both franchises.

SouthCentral did enough to bring the franchise up to scratch although pax didn't see visible improvements until GoVia got a full franchise period and rebranded as Southern.

Talking about Connex, I've found a pic of a 319 with NSE and Connex branding.

Don't have a photo, but at the forecourt of Leamington station there's a "do not chain bikes to these railings" sign with the NSE-era "Chiltern Line" symbol with the rolling hills. Although being as it's on its own I suspect it might date from during or immediately after privatization.

Here's an excellent gallery.

The NRTT used to list both of them as just CX (same as they did with Virgin, both VT).

Not officially closed yet, but unlikely to ever reopen, so can still go in this thread, Croxley green station (Waits for the abuse) has NSE branding at street level.

I've just remembered: don't the Moorgate line diagrams refer to the "Bedford line" at Moorgate? That dates them to before 1988, as after then it'd've been part of Thameslink.

That is something of an enigma. Leamington was outside the NSE area (it ran as far north as Banbury). The rolling hills ex-NSE Chiltern Line logo was used as the logo for the Chiltern Lines TOU in the run up to privatisation and it continued to be used by the privatised Chiltern Railways TOC for its first year or so before being superseded by the present CR logo. So far so good, but Leamington was run by Central Trains in the early years of privatisation and was not transferred to CR until some years later, well after CR has ceased to use the old logo. So the only thing I can think of is that they must have reused an old sign.

I think most of the stations on the Chiltern and Aylesbury Lines which were refurbished in NSE's Total Route Modernisation still retain plaques which mark this achievement.

Stoke Mandeville definitely has the old NSE Civil Engineers plaque beneath the eaves on one end. Wendover & Bicester North have NSE plaques in the booking hall marking the official reopening of the station after the improvements. There may be one or two others. However not all Chiltern Line stations got any sort of refurbishment during the "total" route modernisation, for example Banbury, Princes Risborough, Denham, Northolt Park.

Must be.

Chiltern gained its stations north of Banbury in 2003/4 (from Central mainly, although Claverdon and Bearley may have been Thames), around the same time as the Hatton–Stratford line was transferred to them and a while after Central had started terminating at Dorridge. Interestingly Central retained the stabling rights for the bay platforms and sidings at Leamington, which now belong to London Midland who stick five or six 172s there overnight.

Claverdon & Bearley passed from Central to London Midland at the time of franchise changeover. They are still managed by LM not Chiltern.

If you walk from Platform 4 up to Platform 3 at Bournemouth, there's a sign just before you get to the bridge that is very definitely NSE in origin (font and colours). I think it advertises the booking hall and toilets. Will see if I remember to take a pic next time I'm there.

There's a sign on a wall adjacent to the car park next to the "up" lines at Southampton Central that says something like:

Network South East
and
Hampshire County Council

"Working in Partnership"

Anyone got a pic?

In the platform brick surface at Palmers Green, the NSE toothpaste can be seen in the brickwork.

Bayford (I think, or maybe Watton at Stone) may still have some NSE signs on the platforms.

There's a lot visible on various signs between Hitchin and Peterborough. Biggleswade still has the same paving blocks as Billariccay, at the bottom of the footbridge.

On some of Southeasterns 465/9's, you can see a bit of the toothpaste livery behind the doors when they're open.
