I traveled on the RTC The Buxton Spa Express' yesterday Saturday 14th March 2026 behind 45407 'The Lancashire Fusilier ' from Manchester Victoria to Buxton. Which encompassed a figure of 8 journey through Lancashire, briefly touching Yorkshire (Todmorden) and into Derbyshire, climbing up to Copy Pit the train was stopped due to Lambs/sheep on the line.

First time I noticed this over the gala at Oxenhope the 3 main line locos could be watered using the connections at the base of the tender with a water pump.

I have added 32 new photos to the collection of Collett's small 0-6-0PT design, They were similar in appearance to many other GWR tank engines but smaller than the ubiquitous GWR 5700 Class.
The Collett-designed 5400 Class had 5 ft 2 in (1.575 m) driving wheels for greater top speed with autocoaches, and were all fitted with the required remote control gear for working the push-pull autotrains. They had a modern cab and a larger bunker. They were frequently seen on inner suburban routes from Paddington. A few of the photos need locations if anyone can help please

The War Department (WD) "Austerity" 2-10-0 is a type of heavy freight steam locomotive that was introduced during the Second World War in 1943.
The Austerity 2-10-0 was based on Robert Riddles' Austerity 2-8-0, and was designed to have interchangeable parts. It had the same power output as the 2-8-0 but a lighter axle load, making it suitable for secondary lines.Design
It had a parallel boiler and round-topped firebox. While the 2-8-0 had a narrow firebox, the 2-10-0 had a wide firebox placed above the driving wheels. This was common in the United States (e.g. the USRA 0-8-0) but unusual in Britain, where wide fireboxes usually required trailing wheels, as with 4-4-2 and 4-6-2 types. These were the first 2-10-0 locomotives used in Great Britain, and the first major class of ten-coupled engines — they had been preceded by two 0-10-0 locomotives; the Great Eastern Railway's Decapod and the Midland Railway's Lickey Banker. Riddles later used the 2-10-0 wheel arrangement for the BR Standard Class 9F. This too had a wide firebox placed above the driving wheels.
Built for wartime service at home and abroad. After the war, the British Railways (BR) bought twenty-five locomotives. These were initially numbered 73774-73798 but later re-numbered 90750–74. They were mostly operated by BR's Scottish Region on heavy freight trains and were all withdrawn between 1961 and 1962.

L12 58 is Ash Junction.
L12 63 is probably Ash.

5400 48 and 58 are Blenheim & Woodstock. N.b. 48 is 5413, not 5403.

Yesterday Saturday 28th March i travelled on Vintage Trains 'The Shap Mountaineer behind 60163 Tornado with 11 coaches which included the water carrier & Tornado support coach, and ran without a diesel on the rear

The journey over shap saw Tornado top the summit at 42 mph, and she is seen here after arriving at Carlisle

Just 5 minutes in front of Tornado was Tangmere though with diesel assistance with RTC's 'The Cumbrian Mountain Express', we had to wait for Tangmere to be dragged out of P3 at Carlisle and i was able to get this quick photo through the open window on my coach, (at no time did the phone or my hand hang out of window)

It was amazing how quickly it changed from sunny weather to heavy downpour
47773 sets off to Upperby for servicing and turning if the train in fine weather 13.56pm

60163 less than 1 minute after the class 47 photo a very heavy downpour lasted for about a couple of minutes 13.56pm you can see the rain!!

On the approach to Aisgill we were slowed by a PW restriction of 20mph about a couple of miles from the summit, Tornado thenpowered away from this and topped Aisgill summit at 46mph, boy was she making some noise!!
Finally back at Crewe, again in a heavy downpour of rain (photos and video taken with my phone)

I wasn't able to get to Victoria for the transit to Castleton, but a extra working involving Tornado was 0Z78 1422 Castleton North Jn to Castleton North Jn. 60163 Tornado ran tender first back to Manchester Victoria from Castleton, then ran up to Brewery curve to turn round.
