The key is that I said north of
or a part of the M62 corridor. I deliberately avoided saying "not south of", because I wanted to see if anyone would think of Glasgow/Edinburgh/Newcastle.
Also... the answer has been and gone:
Did Ivo mean in the north or north of the M62 corridor? Could it be somewhere in Glasgow like Helensburgh?
[Insert Muttley-style growl here]
Okay, with that one having clearly spawned some interest, I'm game. I'll find a new one for you all. Such as this one:
I am part of one of the UK's twenty-five largest conurbations, as suggested by the ONS (and Wikipedia). I am one of the principal settlements of that conubration, though I am not a part of a Unitary Authority whose name is exclusively identical to my settlement name. Indeed, I may not even be in a UA, I am not saying. However, further east in the conurbation is one of Britain's busiest non-suffix stations. There are shuttles between my three-platform station and it. There is also a main-line that has a spur direct to my station, thus avoiding the major station.
