This station used to have more than 3x the number of platforms, was a junction station and now shares its name with another station that is not on the national rail network. It also partially featured in a film about gangsters.
OK, a clue then: The line this town is on was once all double track, but has now got some short sections of single, due to an engineering issue. The station was once a junction with another line, long closed, and the preserved items are in connection with that former line
