I recall this thread from Greenback last year. Anyone who turns their back on the constituents for something like this deserves to have their name added to this Z-list of Z-listers (or something like that)! <D

Dorries be gone before the next election, I'm sure. She ought to be ashamed of herself and should offer an immediate resignation.

biggest mistake she made was not taking the beastie boys (cameron osborne clegg)with her.

Is there any particular reason as to why you are so apparently bitter that we have a Conservative Government at present? At lot of your posts seem overly critical of the Right-Wing of politics...

I feel that a comparison can be drawn to certain of our members on the Football forum at the mere mention of Manchester United....the red mist descends and vitriolity is given free rein....

We might have a Conservative Govt. at least partly but we certainly haven't got a right wing one.

So a government that forces the unemployed to work full time without pay and tries to get rid of compensation for workplace criminal injuries isn't right wing ?

Anyway, back to the subject of this thread, there appears to be a consesus in Mid Bedfordshire that the absence of Dorries from her constituency will hardly make any difference, for the simple reason that she has hardly done sweet FA for her constituents since the 2010 election.

I thought that the Cambodian Khmer Rouge Pol Pot regime was far more more left-wing than right-wing, from from what your excellent description states in the quote above.

This sounds more like the USSR than the current UK administration - and they couldn't have been much further to the Left...

I had a lecturer at University who said that the political spectrum isn't really a straight line it's more of a circle. At the top of the circle you have the dead centre of the political spectrum as you move right and left around the circle the two spectrums get further apart and less similar. Once you begin to approach the bottom of the circle both ideologies whilst supposedly very different, in fact, share many similarities and at their most extreme can be indistinguishable. Obviously this is quite simplistic but I've always thought it an interesting way of looking at it.

If you look at the USSR and Nazi Germany there are more than a few similarities between the two in the period 1930-1945.

A very interesting take on the spectrum, and one I can certainly understand (although I would probably suggest that the circle does have a small break in it at the bottom, just to keep "Left" and "Right" separate). I may have to share this viewpoint off the forum.

Left and right politics is pretty much a horseshoe affair, in that you can go so far left or right that it starts to become difficult to distinguish them.

This is what I was trying to say. :)

Who remembers when John Bercow (the speaker of the house) had to endure his wife going onto 'Celebrity Big Brother?' I didn't watch it myself, but I seem to remember she was evicted fairly quickly. Her comments about 'sticking two fingers up at the establishment' certainly raised a few eyebrows!

Another similar matter occurred quite some years ago now when Christine Hamilton appeared on another rather strange television programme, where that woman of similar mature years to Nadine Dorries appeared, but she too was not a sitting Member of Parliament and was not in situation to abrogate her position of responsibility to the constituents of an area represented by a Member of Parliament.

Dorries bottled the "bushtucker trial" but at least did a little better than Helen Flannagan - Rosie Webster from Corrie.

What happened to "little Rosie Webster" - she seems to have expanded immensely in a particular area.

Dorries has again been selected for the BTT as has Flannagan.

This morning was showing some nice clips of her having a shower this morning. Wow is all I could think.

I take it you are referring to Helen and not Nadine

Whilst watching the programme (purely for research purposes ) I saw Nadine win the trial last night - well done. I am becoming addicted should I seek medical attention ? :p

It's now emerged she was granted a month of leave to do "something controversial" but she couldn't confirm it was I'm a celeb due to confidentiality clauses with the show.
She's also revealed she has donated her mp salary for the month she's away plus her show fees to charity.

Considering she has found herself in "political limbo", who was it who granted her the month of leave to which you refer.

Andrew Mitchell - who has given a statement which could be considered misleading if what Nadine has said is true;

"Andrew Mitchell was neither asked nor did he agree to Nadine Dorries going off to Australia for a month to take part in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here."

Nadine has responded by saying she WAS given permission for the time off, and that the above statement is playing with words. It's accurate, but gives the impression that no permission was given at all.

She was given time off for something she warned them would be controversial, but due to confidentiality couldn't disclose it was I'm a celeb, so what Andrew Mitchell has said correct in that he didn't give time off specifically to go in the jungle, but he did give time off for something controversial. All comes down to how you read it.

On reflection it may have been better to put an MP like Austin Mitchell in there.

He was once a well known "face" on the box , but I suspect he's probably a bit to decrepid judging by that C4 thing he was in the other year living with poorer people.

Come to think of it Nadine Dorres was in that as well.

So was Duncan-Smith who left fairly early and Mark Oaten who was the "naughty boy" from Winchester (Lib Dem)
