Just had a wee read of this...... https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/can-platform-staff-hold-a-train-within-reason.225537/
And it got me thinking for a few minutes;
Why not have any of the following in place for when the train is pulling away just as the passenger tried to get their connecting train?
The passengers who have just missed their connection would need to make a visit to the ticket office in that station and make a request to the ticket office clerk to either stop the train if it has left the station, but still within a certain radius of the station, or recall the train back into to the station if the train has already gone beyond a certain distance of the station. To achieve this, there would be a button under the desk for a member of ticket office staff to press to freeze the train as it is pulling away from the station, that is bring it to a sudden stop, then a member of staff escorts the passenger to the frozen train, and order the conductor to open a door to allow the passenger onto the train they would otherwise have missed.
Additionally, there would be a second button under the desk to recall the train if it has already departed the station and is beyond a certain radius of the station, forcing it to stop and reverse back into the station, and the same procedure as above takes place, allowing the passenger to board it.
What would the practicality of such a feat be like this and would it be more feasible depending on the size of the station involved and how busy on average that station might be on any given day?
