That non-stop detour to Cambridgeshire would be fun on a pacer, but you'd better get the builders on it pronto!

How about extending the Brighton to Southampton service to Weymouth (or Bournemouth if there is pathing issues with the single track)

It will call at Brockenhurst, Christchurch, Pokesdown, Bournemouth, Branksome, Poole, Hamworthy, Wareham, Dorchester South & WEYMOUTH

And have a connecting service to Gatwick at Brighton

Also, what about Oxford to Salisbury calling at Didcot Parkway, Reading (reverse), Basingstoke, Overton, Whitchurch, Andover, Grateley & SALISBURY

Also extend the XC Guildford services to Gatwick Airport calling at Redhill, GATWICK AIRPORT

Also extend Southerns Milton Keynes service to Birmingham New St calling at Northampton, Rugby, Coventry, Birmingham Intl and Birmingham New Street.

But only when they get the 377/5s back

Maybe extend south to Gatwick/Brighton as well

I think there should be a really fast service from London to Kyle of Lochalsh via the EMML calling at London St Pancras, Sheffield, York, Darlington, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Haymarket, Perth, Pitlochry, Newtonmore, Avimore, Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh.

I think it should also stop at Derby too and either Leeds or Doncaster. What do you think?

London Midland already run the Birmingham services via Northampton so I would run it avoiding NMP (if there is paths)

How about a service from Rice Lane to Sandplace calling at Ashchurch for Tewkesbury and Liskeard?

Battersea park to Flowery field stopping at Tipton only?

That's actually quite a good idea.

Moscow to New York stopping at Dunrobin Castle.
Obviously this could only happen if the Bering Strait tunnel was built.

Oh don't be so ridiculous. Why are you not suggesting a station stop at Durham?

As if somebody from Glasgow would sit on a train to Weymouth. They barely go to their sweet spot of Blackpool any more - you'd be in Tenerife quicker (and they are)!

Not to mention, most British seaside towns are holes.

Good idea, though sending it via Yeovil, Weymouth, Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth, Brighton, Hastings, Ashford and then Dover would be less of a logistical and pathing nightmare. 159s would be best IMHO.

There are still large swarms of Glaswegians in Torbay in the summer, so its not all that unrealistic!

Maybe XC could do a holiday maker train in summer going from Poole-Blackpool North calling at Poole, Bournemouth, Brockenhust, Southampton Central, Winchester (alternate services), Basingstoke, Reading, Didcot Parkway (alternate services), Oxford, Evesham, Worcester Shrub Hill, Kidderminster, Wolverhampton, Telford Central, Wellington (alternate Services), Shrewsbury, Gobowan (alternate services), Wrexham General, Chester, Warrington Bank Quay, Wigan North Western, Preston and Blackpool North.

Also another summer service from Portsmouth Harbour-Portsmouth Harbour via Edinburgh Waverley calling at Portsmouth Harbour, Havant, Guildford, Reading, Oxford, Banbury, Leamington Spa, Coventry, Birmingham International, Tame Bridge Parkway, Stoke-On-Trent, Macclesfield (alternate services), Stockport, Manchester Piccadilly, Stalybridge, Huddersfield, Leeds, York, Darlington, Durham, Newcastle, Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Edinburgh Waverley, Haymarket, Lockerbie (alternate services), Carlisle, Penrith North Lakes (alternate services), Oxenholme Lake District (alternate services), Lancaster, Preston, Wigan North Western, Warrington Bank Quay, Crewe, Stafford, Wolverhampton, Birmingham New Street, Birmingham International, Coventry, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Oxford, Reading, Guildford, Havant and Portsmouth Harbour.

That's the second time in this thread that I've seen one proposed to run direct from Kidderminster to Wolverhampton, presumably deliberately to avoid New Street. How is this meant to be achieved - or is my rail atlas just broken??

Oh sorry, I forgotten that the line from Kidderminster to Birmingham Moor Street hung off at Smethwick Galton Bridge towards New Street and not towards Wolverhampton. In that case I think it should go via Brum.

Also the mention of 'alternate services' suggests that it's to run to a regular pattern through the day. Really?!

Without wanting to sound harsh, I don't think any of the ideas (aside from the ones that members have obviously done as a joke) on this thread are realistic, viable or sensible.

When I joined this forum, I joined at the same age as you in December 2010 (Christ that long!) and I was posting stuff like this suggesting unrealistic services etc and it didn't go down too well.

That said, even now, I'm one of the forums younger members and still have lots to learn and I still probably post **** :)

Sad that a thread which was perhaps being unintentionally ridiculous at the start is now being very deliberately nonsensical. Clouds out all the decent proposals worthy of discussion that get lost within it - Perth-Carlisle and Brighton-Weymouth etc.
