MTR Crossrail - salary & benefits query

Hello all,

First post but have been loitering for a while.

I've been toying with the idea of applying for the MTR Crossrail vacancy for trainee drivers at Old Oak Common. As it has been readvertised again this week, I've decided to give it a go. (Long story - won't bore you)

What I was wondering is if anyone knows how the pay progression works (if you are successful in training etc....I appreciate that's a big if).

My reason for asking is like many of those on here, I'm a career changer and I'm obviously thinking about how I'd pay the mortgage (and the wife & kids )

In addition to this, I'd be grateful if anyone has any further info regarding the benefits in terms of what the pension contributions would be, what sort of free/concessionary travel is offered etc

I'm pretty sure it has the pay increase within the job advert itself ,free oyster for you and spouse plus discount on all national rail

Maybe I didn't make myself clear - what I mean is, what happens in terms of how you progress. Does your salary progress as you go along until qualified? Or does it just rise once you're qualified and on your own?

As for the benefits - it wasn't really clear in terms of what you receive hence why I was checking.

This may not help and is not MTR info, but many tocs have trainee increments. The day 1 salary may not be great...probably then go up when passed out on rules and regs, same again at traction and then when you pass the final and 'get your key'. The final jump will be when 'go productive' that being the first time the train moves with only u in the cab.

As I say, this is genersl, noit MTR specific.

Will your mortgage provider all a ' holiday' if in good standing.

I'm sure someone posted on this forum about MTR pay progression, I believe it went something along the lines of this...

Starting salary is £26,577, that's for the first 6 months, then once you go out with a driving instructor it increases to around £39k, that'll be for the next 12 months, then once fully qualified its £55k.
