At Stranraer station I was intrigued to see a sign pointing passengers in the right direction for Sealink services, a name not used since 1991.

Clearly many stations have historic signs that are built into the structure of their building and cannot be easily changed but, leaving those aside, what's the most out of date sign you have seem at a station?

At Hartlepool we have some portable information stands, one has the Arriva logo sticker on just painted over with Northern Rail blue and another grey one with the Regional Rail logo on not even painted over or anything!

Essex Road is home to a long since outdated NSE route map on the Hertford/Welwyn platform.

Southampton Central still has a great big Red Star sign across the original station front.

When I visited Rainham in 2009, it still had an NSE sign outside the station, but it also had red star written on it! I think the LUL platforms at Barking also had a few NSE signs left.

Yes, there are still a few NSE signs on the LUL platforms at Barking still. In fact I think that NSE signs are so commonplace (relatively speaking) that we need to go earlier than that...

Not 100% sure if this is still there (though it's isolated location might help make it renovation-proof), but this sign was certainly still outside Leytonstone High Road station when LOROL took over there in 2007, despite referring to a service that ceased in 1981 http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicohogg/1388192640/
It's still present in the (post-refurbishment) picture on Google Streetview

These are at pretty much every West Yorkshire railway station.

Old Station Signs:

Sign at main entrance to Salisbury station, earlier this year. (Network Southeast / Parcels)

Sign on platform at Dean station, earlier this year.

Sign at Gypsy Lane, 2 years ago, but was still there when I went passed a few months ago. (Old 1970s/ 80s BR station sign)

There's one at Northwich that was out-of-date between the mid 1990s and Dec 08 as it says which platform Southport trains depart from. However, as of Dec 08 there's a Sunday only Southport service so it is actually relevant now even if it wasn't for around 15 years.

Old Railway signs, although not actually on stations:

Old Great Western Railway bridge weight restriction sign on the outskirts of Bath. It is certainly not preserved as it is in poor condition and inn the middle of a residential area. Taken last year.

British Rail sign in the bus shelter by Long Preston village green. There is also an equally as ancient bus company display as well. Taken this year.

Regional Railways sign on Class 144 cab door. Taken this year.

Very old BR Property Board sign spotted adjacent to the A178 at Port Clarence, Middlesbrough. This picture was taken 4 years ago, but the most recent Google Streetview shows it was still there when the Google car went past. Link HERE.

Somewhere between Nottingham and Lincoln (possibly rollerston). There is a sign attached to the gate of the old ticket room. 'close this gate. Penalty 2d'. If I go that way today I'll try and get a pic of it

Wallsend Metro station is quite possibly the only station in Britain with a sign in Latin.

Network NorthWest signage still dotted about at various stations.

Kearsley still has the original orange backed M entrance sign.

Road signs around Preston direct you to Red Star.

Not out of date at all. That's the standard National Rail logo, you see it at lots of stations and on direction signs. Taken over by ATOC after the demise of BR, one of the few things to survive the break up intact.

There's still an Eastern Railway Blue 'Welcome to Lowestoft Central' sign at Lowestoft on the old station building.

There's a red star (I call them totem poles) at Great Yarmouth.

There are still BR Regional Railways signs at Trafford Park and Urmston; as well as at Nottingham. They were still commonplace at 95% of EMT stations before they introduced new signs last year.

There's still SPT orange cladding on Blantyre booking office, despite it being phased out quite a few years ago.

That's at Lowdham, there's also some old adverts and other old Midland Railway signage. I'm guessing most of it has been put up by the owner of the old station building, quite possibly a rail enthusiast.

There's the huge Regional Railways sign at Manchester Victoria.

Network NorthWest signage still dotted about at various stations.

Pretty much every station between Blackpool South and Colne/Burnley Manchester Road has some Network NorthWest signage.

There's a sign (not sure how to link to Google Street View) near the Royal Mail depot that says 'Preston B R Red Star Parcels Point'

The tiled map at Middlesbrough is an object of beauty. There's also one at York.

Also at Middlesbrough was a map of the town centre which dated from the early-mid 80s before they drove the A66 through. It clearly shows the Royal Exchange building which was demolished in an act of urban vandalism to make way for the road. It disappeared a couple of years back when they were doing up the station and I feared it had gone forever. I even considered contacting them to find out where it had gone and to offer a good home. I was delighted when it returned a few months later but often wonder how many first-time visitors it confuses though, to be fair, I am the only person I have ever seen looking at it.

What about the wall of carved destinations saved from the old Blackfriars station that was on the concourse of the now demolished newer station? Thankfully they've kept it and it will feature in the rebuilt station.

I thought you would have remembered the 1st and 2nd class ladies and gentlemen waiting room at Bolton we discussed the other day? They're about 100 years out of date

Not a station sign as such, but there are speed limit signs on the PDL around Petersfield which reference HSTs. When was the last time this line saw a HST? 2002?
