Anyone know what the situation is regarding VP185s/Valentas? How many Valentas remain and how long will it be until they are all gone?

Also, I see that East Midlands Trains have removed the colour coded timetable from their site, I can't find any way to see which trains are HSTs now!

What are my chances of the 1627 or 1727 SHF-STP being HSTs (and, in turn, Valentas? I realise there's not too much chance of that!)

It would appear, that the diagrams for the HSTs and Meridians have not changed in the current timetable change, thankfully, this means that Sheffield HST's are retained for now, I would enjoy HST's between Sheffield-Derby while you can, as I would presume the NEXT TT change will see them moved to Nottingham, with the Meridians moved to Sheffield.

Interestinly, there is a quote from Alieen Jordan (Head of Rolling Stock Projects) stating that their contract with Bombardier is for 5/7 and 10 car trains on the MML. Presumably, that means that all four car trains will be upgraded to 5 car by taking another car from the 8 car sets, leaving 7 car sets, and 10 car sets (2x5).

The ones for XC are 43007/085, 43101/103/104/121/157/166/178/184, plus two HST sets ex MML along with some converted hauled stock. (Full details in the December Rail Express - blatant plug I know ;) .)

According to the 125 Group list earlier this month, EMT still has 43046/54/58/66/81/83 which are still Valentas.

The Valentas will be gone soon. They are being converted as we speak. You won't know whats on the 1627/1727 engine wise till the day if HST's

But they were just shortened to 4 and 8 car Meridians....

Maybe I'm making this up, but the Meridians are in purple and the HSTs in green on the timetable.

There are currently 9x4 car and 7x8 car sets running therefore to achieve all sets to be 5 or 7 car would mean that 1 of the 8 car sets would have to lose 3 vehicles!!

Its not really like that

As the 1608 London St.Pancras-Bedford is normally booked a Meridian, infact today a HST was allox on that [which brought some memories :) 29th Dec 05 ;) ]
I believe Gizmogle's Train : 1427 Sheffield-STP was meant to be a HST, but I think it was a Meridian

Yup, that list of Valenta power cars is correct.

Yes, the way MML used to do it was purple for 222, green for 43. But sometimes they didn't always keep to it.

If you read the timetable, that was just taken from MML, then EMT seem to have removed the section that states the colour coding for trains, so probably aren't using it anymore.

My train was said in the timetable to be a 222, but as Julian first informed me, was a HST.

Knowing Arriva, it'll be booked for a HST and a pair of 220s will turn up instead.

Nice to know EMT do still have 054 and 058 though. I wonder what the odds are that they'll be paired up again. Better than 166, 054 was!

As for knowing what sets are out and where, you either need to get out early and figure out the diagrams from observations or find someone who has the gen and can contact you.

Be warned - the 1727 SHF - STP is usually an 8-car MMM. Well, at least Saturdays it is. The same applies to the 1227 SHF - STP IIRC.

Well, yes, but as a general rule I presume the units and HSTs tend to keep to their own diagrams when possible?

A similar thing happens on the FSR network for example, where 334s and 318s are fully interchangable, but more often than not, stick to their own diagram.

The idea of the Summer Saturday trains was for additional capacity - not OMG OMG HST VALENTA OMG OMG HELLFIRE.

Never saw Virgin putting a pair of Voyagers on vice HST during the summer. Arriva, on the other hand, are experts at doing unusual traction bookings. 143602+142002 on the 1450 from Newport on Sunday. Craven Arms doesn't usually see a Pacer to it, must have looked a trifle odd. And I had the mispleasure of travelling on that move...

Summer Sunday runs is different...Voyagers must look a little out of place at Newquay.

Does it really matter what traction it is?

It's a damn train - it may have underfloor engines or whatever, but it provides additional capacity. The entire aim of it.

I wasn't complaining about that. I'm just awaiting the first instance where Arriva XC promise one form of traction on a service and put a totally different one on.

So, you would of prefered for there to be no train?

How about up on the Valleys with the tractors - they weren't exactly ever 143'd and if so very rareley!

Put it this way - Virgin advertised the additionals as Summer Saturday extras. Nowhere did they say HSTs officially IIRC - it was the enthusiasts who added HSTs to that. So how are Arriva going to promise it?

You'll note Arriva are also saying that the HSTs on Edinburgh - Plymouth will supplement the Voyager fleet.

On the other hand, VWC advertise there 90 services as not being Pendo/Voyager...

They actually say - may not be formed of Pendolino on the 1651, however, nowhere else in the timetable do they guarantee every other train being a Dildo...

Wonder if they would offer a refund if you got a Pendo on the 1651
