I'm sure it's a pain for people who want to get somewhere quickly, but I do like a nice little pootle round the diversion and over the Harringworth** viaduct on a sunny Sunday. :D

**Or Welland if you prefer. So good they named it twice?

EMR Intercity services are, I believe, making additional calls at Wellingborough, Kettering and Corby (which is crying out for a second platform). Everything northbound calling at Corby has to switch from the Down to the Up, and then back to the Down again!

Plus, everything on the Fasts at Wellingborough (the ICs) can only switch to/from the Slows at Wellingborough North or Kettering South Jns; it's impossible to reach the Corby lines from the Fasts once you pass Kettering South Jn.

That's been normal for diversions since Corby re-opened., i.e. cancel the Corby terminators and replace with calls by through trains. When Kettering - Corby and slightly beyond was still single line (and there was only the one bi-di Slow S of Kettering) there was a lot of (timetabled) hanging around, and about half of trains didn't stop at Corby for pathing. They happened frequently, long before the electrification North of Kettering towards M.H.; at one point, I think before Corby re-opened the last time, they were actively advertised at Northamptonshire stations as an opportunity to have a scenic journey over Harringworth viaduct
There's a slow to Leicester direction crossover North of Kettering, and this takes up all the space before the levels of the two routes become very different. The Leicester route climbs quite steeply towards Desborough summit whereas the Melton route is level . Really shows the gradients on the original route.
The 1962 WTT section A shows trains using the Melton route crossing at 'Kettering Junction', which was South of the station.

There seem to be all the masts in place around the Braybrooke Supply site, but many are still missing the cantilevers or portals (cross beams?) so there are no catenaries or wires for about 1/2 a mile.

Looks as though most of the cantilevers and portals are now in place @Flying Phil. Shots taken between Braybrooke supply and the southern end of Market Harborough/

Is that one of the new class 810s being tested?
As far as we know, 810001 is still at Old Dalby undergoing testing. This combined with the fact that no other units seem to have emerged from the factory (apart from 810002 which is undergoing testing in Italy??) means that it may be a while before we see them on the MML.

And nobody is sure wether aslef will allow training while in dispute. Could be a while indeed.

Almost makes 2024 (or even 2025) look optimistic!

It keeps on slipping. Next summer for training to start now, apparently. All subject to union training agreement (as @baz962 rightly notes), enough units actually being ready in time, capacity to release staff for training while covering existing work etc.

Not sure ASLEF will have any influence on testing on the MML though.

That all depends on who is being asked to drive them over the route, I suppose!

ASLEF most certainly will have an influence on those being asked to drive them in passenger service, and upon those who train them.

(For the benefit of the mods, I’m not getting into an argument, but my above point is clearly relevant to this thread. @Bald Rick and I have long since agreed to differ on the union issue, and I’m sure we all hope for a resolution to the dispute ASAP).

I'm fairly sure it's GBRF Drivers doing the testing, certainly at Old Dalby, and more than likely on the main line i'd have thunk.

Network Rail have posted a photo of subsiding track, near Baybrooke. Shows the masts quite well (without wires)

Closing northbound Friday (and diverting via Corby), give them extra day (Sat & Sun closed)

Is this possibly the same site photographed from the other direction in the 3rd photo in post #6813 yesterday? You can see the markers in the embankment side. I‘d be surprised if it’s directly related to electrification equipment, but might it have been some sort of an access point?

They had started running over at a very reduced speed earlier, but that was soon axed. The slip is only just up from the works compound.

Yes that is exactly where shot 3 was taken. Not sure who/why is/are working at the compound, quite a large crane/digger?

A bit of a side track now, but your second shot in the earlier post seems to show an overhead electrical supply that is nothing to do with the electrification project at all. I think it’s a transition from overhead to underground cable, and possibly heads north under the embankment.

If you locate the site it in Google Streetview, the overhead line is present in the earlier images from 2018 and 2009…

They might be expecting it to be longer than the weekend although that's speculation on my part. EMR were contacting drivers this evening asking if they didn't mind having their hours changed due to short term plans on Monday due to diversions.

Yes, the overhead supply as far as I know has nothing to do with the railway. It was an innocent bystander as I went for the cantilever shot

Somewhat related - a tree branch has fallen onto the fast line OLE just north of the A1057 bridge in St Albans. Trains diverted onto the slow lines as required, including the Class 700 I'm on.

A1057 is Hatfield Road, so the incident is slightly north of the City station.

Large blue cherry picker up the side of the National Grid Transmission tower at Braybrooke, indicating perhaps that cabling from the substation to the other 400kV circuit is being installed today

Do we know exactly where the wires are finishing in this phase? North or south of Blaby bridge?

South of Blaby Bridge.

(Also a bit surprising at this late stage for that stretch of vegetation to still be untouched. Trimmed back by the end of the month, surely?)

In infrastructure news, the Supply site at Braybrooke now has the other side connected to the 400kV pylon and there are wires to the South. The North has all the cantilevers installed but not all the droppers and other gubbins!DSC03155.JPGDSC03156.JPGDSC03154.JPG

Note in the distance, there are the works for the track subsidence where the straight track veers to the left.
