Why would you need to do a train journey between Aldgate and Aldgate East, the stations are less than 1 minute by foot apart from each other?

Change at Liverpool Street is shown on all tube maps.they really ought to be an osi, if only for the benefit of large numbers of passengers who end up at Aldgate, off the Met, when they want to travel towords Barking, much easier for them to walk between the two than to travel back to Liverpool St.

Because many people aren't familiar with how the system works. It happens a lot, even when announcements telling people to change are made.
Many will still get on the first train through unfamiliarity, and the SSR is horribly complex compared to many metro systems across the world.
