That's not where the OP's journey is ending - they *want* to travel by foot between the two so they have a choice of more trains at Aldgate.

Because many people aren't familiar with how the system works. It happens a lot, even when announcements telling people to change are made.

Many will still get on the first train through unfamiliarity, and the SSR is horribly complex compared to many metro systems across the world.

I did suggest on here once that it ought to be the "Oyster Spanish Inquisition" but apparently it's the less interesting "out of station interchange". If two nearby stations are declared as an OSI then passengers can leave the network at one and re-join at the other within a certain time period, without being charged two fares. Used if walking between the two is a sensible option for certain journeys.

Why people end up at Aldgate does not really matter, the fact is they frequently do.
