missed the assessment!

hi, im new on here im not sure if this has already been asked.

A few weeks ago i had an assessment with FTPE at manchester for a trainee train driver position.
On the day of my assessment the alternator went on my car, it wouldnt start and i missed my assessment, it was horrible. i didnt have a contact number so i emailed them but to this day got no reply.

I read on here somewhere that you only get 2 chances at the assessment and if you fail both times you can never be a train driver!!

my question is.. does anybody know if this will go against me as one of my 2 chances?

As you have never taken the assessment you have never failed it, so no it won't.

Sounds unfortunate but it shouldn't count as a fail-and I wouldn't hold your breath against hearing back from them, I would say its almost a certainty that even if you do hear back they won't offer you another date, unfortunately they will have far more candidates than they need anyway.

I would mirror what TDK has said but perhaps slightly less bluntly, did you not try to get there through other means if your car wouldn't start?

I think you might have failed the interview anyway as one of the questions is often 'tell about a time you've had to solve a problem'. The answer "I went indoors and went back to bed" fyi is a fail

p.s. Just how far do you live from the assessment centre? A lot of people stay in cheap hotels the night before to relax and/or negate unforseen problems such as yours.

would give anything to get. If you can't get over the problem of a broken
down car to get to the most important assessment of your life what chance
would you have getting up at 4.00 am to catch your book on time and your
first job of the day. I wouldn't hold my breath for another chance with them
I'm afraid.

Exactly, I once went to an interview after suffering concussion. I didn't get the job (lack of relevant experience) but at least I turned up on time

Don't let it get to you, life's full of stuff to challenge us & as your initial application was acceptable to the toc & they wanted you to be assessed there's good reason to believe that another application may also get you to assessment.
I recently failed at CBI for tpe but I'm sure if I get the opportunity again I'll do better.
P.M.A. A positive mental attitude will defo help. Just use this as a lesson, learn from it and move on to the next mistake, I mean learning opportunity.

I'm not sure it's officially 'ending' is it? Just possibly being reset instead.

He's probably talking about the selection process we went through back in April.
